Clever Riddle

You are in a concrete room. There is a steel pipe 3 feet in length cemented into the center of the concrete floor. The pipe protrudes about 1 foot out of the floor. A ping-pong ball is dropped down the pipe. There is a fraction on an inch clearance between the ball and the pipe. Your task is to get the ping-pong ball out of the steel pipe undamaged. The only items that are available are a wooden ruler, a ball of string, a pocket mirror, a paper clip and a small magnet. Since nothing else is allowed into the room, how could you get the plastic ping-pong ball out of the steel pipe?

I was wondering if you guys could help me find a tone similar to Tool (Aenema/Lateralus) or Russian Circles (Station).
I'm not counting on any amp because my band rehearses in a studio we rent for every rehearsal, so i need a distortion pedal. I have an Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I was thinking of buying the Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Pickups set that includes the Jazz and JB-4 pickups. I also have a Line Six delay pedal and an Electro Harmonix Holy Grail Reverb.

I haven't bought the pickups so, help me out, basically with the pickups and the distortion, and anything that could help me find that sound.
Thanks.

This is a lesson for beginners and everyone -can and should-
try to play this piece, it doesn’t matter if you are classical guitar player, electric guitar player, acoustic steel string pick player, or nylon string player, this piece is for all!

Here is an example of how to apply the Paco de Lucia’s
technique to other musical styles, like this song by Paul Anka
that Elvis make so famous.

Although some times people attribute this kind of rumba arrangements to “Gipsy Kings” (1987),actually it was 18 years before them that Paco de Lucia innovated with the idea of playing Cuban, South American & popular songs of any country, into rumba flamenca on his 1969 LP entitled:
Paco de Lucia en Hispanoamérica.

“My Way” (E major)

Chords & melody lesson
http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo122.html

and with this one, you can play over and have fun!
http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo123.html

The chords are:

||: E (x6),D ,C#7,F#m (x2), F#m7maj (x2), F#m7,B7,E (x2),
Bm (x2),E7 (x2),Amaj7 (x2),Am (x2),G#m,C#7, F#m, B7,
Am (x2), E(x2) :||

then the bridge chords are:

Bm(x2),E7(x2), Amaj7(x2), F#m (x4),B7 (x2), G#m (x2),
C#m (x2),Amaj7 (x2), B7 (x2),Am (x2),E (x2) ||
And of course...
you are invited to upload your own video to YouTube playing a solo or the lead melody as you prefer , with your guitar & along with the audio of my video lesson, that is: accompanied by the sound track using the following video:
http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo123.html

(make this video in a week or so!...and send me the link, then we will comment over, for different creative approach’s etc,
I am sure you will love this experience!, it will be fun!
here is an example of how to do this kind of videos, certainly that’s with another song but, you can watch it, just to have an idea! http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo81.html )

and

( In case you need it!
The rumba strumming pattern you can learn from this lesson
http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo51.html )

Ok my friends!
now…
Be creative and have fun!

Ruben Diaz.
http://www.rdiaz.org/rdfoto4.html

Hey guys,

So my acoustic guitar's frets have been worn down and have little grooves where the string (particularly the G and B strings) hit them. I get the feeling that filing these bumps down would be a bad idea - what's the best way to fix them, or is there even a significant need to? It doesn't appear to harm my playing in any way...

Also, I've heard that the strings should be seated at the nut half-in half-out of the grooves for each string. Is there any truth to this? Because mine sit completely in the grooves, although my action/truss rod needs adjusting so this might be part of it.

My friend give me this guitar a while back which she found lying in her attic covered in dust when she moved in. It's probably rubbish but I like the colour of the wood and for my unlearned eyes it has some unusual features so I'm going to get it in working order and even if I don't play it, it will be a nice possession. All the electrics seem to be working so I only need to spend less than a tenner hopefully to get it working but if you could give me some info on the model or even just some of the features I'd appreciate it.

Heres the unusual and half missing bridge...

Heres the sliding pickup switches which I've only ever seen on jags..

and heres a rather cheap looking bar on the headstock...

Oh and its some kind of Hondo which is why I assumed its rubbish.

First Acts Revealed For EuroSonic Noorderslag

Url: http://www.eurosonic-noorderslag.nl

EuroSonic Noorderslag is Europe's biggest and most important live music industry conference and showcase festival and following on from the success of artists such as Ida Maria and Casiokids this year's edition will focus on Norway. Taking place in the Netherlands from 14th – 16th January 2010, EuroSonic Noorderslag will transform the city of Groningen into a melting pot of Europe's best new European talent, ready to be discovered by both music lovers as industry professionals.

Each year EuroSonic Noorderslag focuses on a particular European country featuring performances by the best artists and dedicating conference topics to its music industry. 2010 will be the year of Norway. With its vibrant music scene, Norway offers a wide variety of the best music, ranging from hard rock to pop, from indie-dance to Norwegian metal. Confirmed artists so far are: Audrey Horne, Bernhoft, Donkeyboy, Monolithic and Rockettothesky.

In addition to the Norwegian focus, over 200 bands from all over Europe are scheduled to play at the event, all hoping to impress the festival promoters and booking agents in the audience. Confirmed acts include; Agent Fresco (IC), Choir of Young Believers (DK), Deolinda (PT), Everything Everything (GB), Go Back To The Zoo (NL), Gösta Berling Saga (SE), Jasper Erkens (BE), Joensuu 1685 (FI), Lee Everton (CH), Lucy Love (DK), Moke (NL), Rigby (NL), Sliimy (FR), So I Watch You From Afar (IR), Svjata Vatra (EE), Tim Knol (NL), Waylon (NL) and Wickeda (BG).
As the exchange and support of new music in Europe is one of the main goals of EuroSonic Noorderslag, the special European Talent Exchange Program (ETEP) was introduced in 2003. Each year ETEP brings together the leading European festivals, radio and other media and stimulates them to ‘exchange' a selection of artists. 2009 set a new record! 214 shows, with 75 European artists from 18 countries performing at 54 ETEP festivals in 20 countries. A grand total of 965 shows by 346 European artists since 2003. More information at http://www.etep.nl

Acts that have gone onto success and gain numerous festival gigs after performing at EuroSonic Noorderslag include; Blood Red Shoes (GB), Goose (BE), Kaizers Orchestra (NO), Lykke Li (SE), Pete Philly & Perquisite (NL), Seeed (DE), Yelle (FR) with the White Lies (GB) clocking up a massive fifteen bookings from ETEP member festivals.

"We didn't feel any pressure at EuroSonic Noorderslag this year. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what job title each member of the audience has, they are still potential fans and still have the ability to be moved and excited by your music. The whole event is in the beautiful town of Groningen and has a great vibe that comes with all early shows in bands careers. It just so happened that after our show, some of the audience became fans and thus asked us to play on some of the festivals and shows that they book and that was very flattering. From that show we were allowed to discover some beautiful areas of Europe over the summer. Parts of Southern Norway, Sweden and even as far as the Czech Republic and Poland. We feel lucky to have played, and proud we won some new fans." Charles Cave, White Lies (GB)

'EuroSonic Noorderslag is an important event for any band who wants to get gigging in mainland Europe. Tonnes of fun and seriously worthwhile.' James Yuill (GB)

"EuroSonic Noorderslag is one of those weird showcase things you do but feel uncomfortable about because it's crawling with music industry types and not many real people, a bit like SXSW. But much like SXSW, if you do a good job of it, you get some way cool stuff out of it. We found that we got offered a lot of good festival slots and started to sell out our Dutch club shows really quickly after doing it, so I reckon it was worth it. It's also in a really cool town." Blood Red Shoes (GB)

"It's quite simple: we made a car called De Staat, and EuroSonic Noorderslag was our ticket to the freeway. Sure, we've done our share of dirt roads, playing local bars and small festivals. People might have heard of De Staat, but EuroSonic Noorderslag really got the thing moving. After our showcases we started playing clubs, and before we could hear one bird whistle, we were set for the summer. Festivals like Pinkpop, Lowlands, Dour, The Great Escape and Sziget are now gigs we can proudly brag about." De Staat (NL)

For more information, please visit http://www.eurosonic-noorderslag.nl

I've come across THIS and the price seems a bit too cheap for the guitar to be any decent. The student’s mother said her son came home frightened when he found out.

“He says, ‘Ma, you’re not going to believe this but Mr. Forde offered another student money to kill me,’” said mother Marcia Killebrew.

Killebrew told Channel 2 Action News reporter Tom Jones that she was shocked when her 16-year-old son told her his substitute math teacher at Mundy’s Mill High School was trying to hire a hit man to kill him.

“I was extremely upset. I called the school at that moment,” said Killebrew.

Killebrew’s attorney said the incident began when Forde called the student out of the classroom one day.

“(Forde) asked him if he was gay,” said attorney Terrance Madden.

Madden said the student became angry at the suggestion and the next day the two had a verbal altercation.

Weeks later, police said, Forde got a Mundy’s Mill student off a school bus and told him he had a hit on someone and needed him to take care of it. Officers said the student asked who it was and Forde said he would let him know.

“The teacher held a piece of paper up with the victim’s name on it,” said Otis Willis III of the Clayton County Police Department.

Forde was arrested and faces making terroristic threats charges. He could lose his job.

His attorney told Jones that Forde was joking and never gave anyone a name.

“How does an authority figure in a school joke with a child?” said Killebrew.

Killebrew’s attorney said the student reported Forde’s questions about his sexuality and the altercation at the time they occurred but Forde remained in the classroom.

“Something should have been done at that time,” said Madden.

Forde’s attorney said the whole incident was blown out of proportion.

A personnel hearing is scheduled for Tuesday. He is currently on paid administrative leave.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drunk & Ninjaly
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A drunk man believing himself to be a ninja drew the help of Seattle police and aid crews late Monday after impaling himself on a First Hill fence post, a police spokesperson said.

The man's ninja skills, it seems, were bested by the 4- to 5-foot-tall fence he attempted to vault, according to the police statement. He ended up stuck on a spike atop the fence in the 600 block of Seventh Avenue.

After an officer in the area heard the man's screams and located him at about 11:15 p.m., Seattle Fire Department personnel were able to free the man. They took him to Harborview Medical Center, where officers attempted to ascertain exactly what the would-be silent assassin was up to.

"The male claimed he was not being chased, but rather he thought he was a ninja and would be able to successfully leap over the 4'-5' fence," the police spokesman said in a statement. "Clearly he was overconfident in his abilities, no doubt bolstered by alcohol."

Not to have to tell lies, hide things from the people I care about," the 34-year-old wrote on her blog after the Sunday Times published its interview with her.

Magnanti's frank and sometimes funny accounts of working as a call girl earned her a huge following, a lucrative book deal and legions of critics who variously accused her of glamorizing the sex industry, making it up -- and of being a man.

The 34-year-old said she became a call girl in 2003 to support herself in London while completing her doctoral thesis after realizing she had no qualms about being paid for sex.

She contacted an agency, working as a prostitute until late 2004, describing it as "so much more enjoyable" than an earlier job as a computer programmer.
I don't want this massive secret over me any more
--Brooke Magnanti

Her online chronicle of her experiences attracted a huge following, prompting the publication of a bestselling book which was serialized on UK prime time television in 2007's "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," starring actress of Billie Piper.

The success led to wild speculation among Britain's literary community over her true identity -- with several well-known authors wrongly accused.

Meanwhile Magnanti had put her call girl career behind her and was quietly working as a cancer and developmental neurotoxicologist at the University of Bristol.

She said she finally broke her silence to answer her critics, including senior Church of England clergy, and because she feared an ex-boyfriend was poised to go public.

"I don't want this massive secret over me any more," she told the Sunday Times.

Last month John Sentamu, the Archbishop of York, said on his Web site that "fiction" like "Belle de Jour" created a "myth" that sex workers were "independent women, empowered by the hold they have over men."

Magnanti said she was most upset by the accusation she wrote fiction.

"You can't say I'm not real, and that my experience isn't real, because here I am," she said, adding that while some sex workers have "terrible experiences" she was "unbelievably fortunate."

Magnanti, who has declined to give further interviews, also told the Sunday Times that her colleagues, all female, had been "amazingly kind and supportive" when she revealed her past.

Barry Taylor, director of communication and marketing at the University of Bristol said the revelations would not affect her employment.

"This aspect of Dr Magnanti's past is not relevant to her current role at the university," he said.

While Magnanti's admission, and indeed her years of blogging, contained many eyebrow-raising insights, according to her final blog entry most people were more interested in distinctly unsexy details.

"Also, so much curiosity about my tax situation! Yes, I did pay taxes on sex work earnings," she wrote.

shes actually quiet good looking.......atelast she got her education and is doing something more rewarding id say.....saving lives is better than maybe sexing up for money.........I would not mind at all if u didnt read my last few sentences...ahahha.....PEAC EOUT

What gauge strings should I be using?

Hey guys,

Long time no post. I've never been particularly knowledgable about strings for acoustic guitars, no matter what strings/gauge I buy I run into problems. I play quite rough, with hard strumming. No matter what, even if I buy long life, super coated with platinum diamond sex strings, 9/10 times I'll break either the G or B string a few days after changing strings. Frustrating. I break them in as best as I can, I've tried using several different guitars, it always breaks though, right at the tuning pegs.

So, what gauge strings should I be using? I've started tuning down 2 steps with my acoustic, the strings I've got on there at the moment (I think they're 12's or 13's) have a bit of a rattle to them when I play open/first/second fret on the lower strings, would a higher gauge string fix this?

Love
J

Hello, Long time no post. Mostly due to the fact I couldnt remember my pass but hey I'm here now

I'm having serious trouble with my left hand, And I have been for the last couple of months. My left hand (and arm) seemed fine one day then the next... I dont know what happened. I started to get frequent twitches (Especially in my pinky, And sometimes on my 3rd finger) and the strength of my hand (Especially when barring) went completely downhill. I used to have a really good barre now I'm lucky to get a clean Fm out on my Telecaster. I went to my GP on an unrelated issue and mentioned it and he just shrugged it off, Saying I should give it time and try to exercise it. I digged out my old Gripmaster (Which I had little use for before, But now I cant do it) and didnt benefit from it slightly.

This is really getting me down as guitar is one of the most imporant things in my life and has been for nearly 7 years now. Absolutely any advice would be appreciated, And if you want to know more please feel free to ask.

Psst, This is in the right section right?

Alex.

Mixer feedback (?)

What would cause a mixer to constantly feedback, or have a feedback sound running at all times?
I just borrowed a 6 input mixer that my drummer found. It's a used Yamaha, and as far as I can tell only 1 of the 6 1/4" input works, but all of the xlr input works (it has 6 of those too). It runs on 2 fuses and is plugged up into the wall output.

So I tried hooking my xlr mic up in each one of the inputs, and there's this medium frequency sound just looming .... beeeeeeeeeee..... like a phone line. When I turn it down, it gets quieter, duh..etc.
The input itself works, it's just annoying with that noise.

The way I have it setup is: Mic -> Mixer out via Left and Right "Speaker" outputs into my Amp modeller line ins -> into the computer.
There are left and right output that's called "Amp", but the input itself is missing, it's just the hole...Weird, I know. Dunno if that output would make a difference...

Anyway, any ideas as to what could be causing it or what I could do (short of throwing it out) would be met with extreme gratitude.

Edit: Using instrument cables.

Does anyone own this bit of kit? The video seems rather limited as far as a demo goes however at a glance it looks like the coolest flange pedal since the Small Clone.
How to Convert HD Video: TS, MTS, M2TS for Portable Devices

Part 1: What is HD Video and why should we convert HD video?

Nowadays, more and more families own digital camcorders such as JVC GZ-X900, Panasonic HDC-TM350, SDR-SW21, Canon FS200, Sony HDR-XR100 etc. With these camcorders, we can store many wonderful and memorable scenes.

These camcorders usually record the video as MOD, TOD or AVCHD (M2TS, MTS) video files. All of these files are high definition videos, with perfect video quality. Only one thing for regret - so little devices can support these HD (High-definition) camcorder videos. Normally, you can only play camcorder videos directly from a camcorder on a HDTV with a HDMI, or burn onto DVD disc, then play from Blu-ray Disc player, or play on a computer from the camcorder connected via USB as an external storage device.

However, have you imagined playing your camcorder videos on your laptop, iPod, iPhone, Zune or any other portable players? Or even uploading your camcorder videos to YouTube, Myspace, Facebook to share with all of your friends? But all of them can not accept HD video so we should convert our HD video to populard video first. 4Videosoft HD Video Converter is such a HD video converter program to convert hd video to popular video for our portable devices.

Part 2: How to convert TS, MOD, TOD, AVCHD (M2TS MTS) to AVI, MP4, WMV FLV etc.

Step 0: Download and install 4Videosoft HD Converter

Step 1: Click “Add files” button to load your HD videos.

Step 2: Click the "Profile" button to select an output format.

Step 3: Click “Open Folder” button to choose your output destination file.

Step 4: Click the “Start” to start the conversion.

Note: Tips about how to edit HD video.

1: How to change your video effect

If you want to adjust the effect of your movie, please click the “Effect” button and a pop-up effect window will appear. You can set the "Start Time" and "End Time" to set the exact time-length of the clip or you can directly drag the slide bar to the position you want.

4: How to join the videos
If you would like to put several files into one output file, please tick the check box of the “Merge into one file”.

5: How to save your favorite picture
If you like the current image when preview video, you can use the "Snapshot" option.
November Blues

Sometimes a song just cant be finished. I've been playing with a few ideas for sometimes but now it seems to me that this tune will stay that way. Or it may not. Its an instrumental without a chorus and there's nothing but my guitar in there. No loops no other instruments and the mix is clean apart from a couple of cuts there are no effects. Depending on your precious feedbacks friends and neighbors the tune will remain that way or I might expend the idea. We'll see. I've decided to call it November Tune because I recorded it today November 2. So yeah. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=8298789

EDIT: He I didnt realize it sucked that bad. I've edited track and title its now called November Blues. Geez.

Looking at getting either a bass wah or fuzz pedal for my brother for Christmas, price isn't a huge issue, though I would prefer to spend less then 250 dollars, gonna order from Music123 if they have something I can get. I am thinking for bass fuzz the MXR M182 El Grande Bass Fuzz and the wah a Morley PBA-2 Dual Bass Wah, anyone who has any experience with either of these pedals input would be helpful. Any suggestions would be helpful too.

how has your job changed this year

My seasonal job is over. With the economic melt down this year my company changed so much I am glad it is over. They changed so many policies took money away from us made us work harder to get it. I actually look forward to look for other employment. Every year I went back it always was worse but this year it went from month to month and the last 2 months it was week to week. I must admit I never really had a job I enjoyed but this one is one of the worst. I can say I will never work for another fortune 500 company again. I am going to start looking abut getting into a music store. I would rather do something I enjoy. I am getting old and physical labor is getting to hard. All the changes happening this year in my old job made me wonder how other GTU'ers jobs changed.

What has the world come to? Nothing in this spot tells fans much about this partnership. Sure, you’ll see the band playing on stage in front of a roughed-up Target logo and you’ll learn that if you buy Pearl Jam’s new album, Backspacer, there, you’ll also get exclusive content. What this Cameron Crowe-directed commercial doesn’t tell fans is that the Target relationship also has a charity angle. The band paired with organic clothing line Loomstate to create a limited-edition T-shirt featuring a graphic from the cover by Tom Tomorrow, sold exclusively at Target to raise money for the National Hunger Relief Program. The band donated $1 for every ticket sold at the Seattle shows, where the spot was filmed, to another hunger-relief charity, Food Lifeline. Target matched the band’s donations. --Eleftheria Parpis

I mena i understand if ur alil indie band tryins to make it......ads and TV shows are teh fastest and most rewarding medium for ur music to be heard by mainstream these days.......but a band like Pearl Jam...???!!!!!....yhea theres a lil charity angle to the whole thign too....but ....seriousley does PJ really need to shell out for the Target corporation ???.........i for one think its a bit overkill......PJ didnt have to do this........sad sad day......maybe I was naive to think they were above the rest /./.........//PEAC EOUT

Advice about gain

I've been playing a long time. Peter Frampton had a long full head of hair... that long. Brian May and Ted Nugent haven't changed at all... anyway. I've always been a gain (preamp) on 11 type. But recently I've noticed myself changing. Less gain. I think it comes from trying every distortion stompbox I can buy or get my hands on over the last two years. Not to say I've tried them all, cause there are a lot of them. I have been disappointed with most of them. But, and this is a big but, I noticed that using less gain generally helps. ESPECIALLY playing live where you turn your amp up to stage volumes. Trying to use your amp or pedals distortion on stage the way you do in the bedroom is a mistake.

Simple I know. If I missed it, someone else may have as well.

Here is a lesson on a piece of Paco De Lucia that you can find on his record “Paco De Lucia Live in America” with the sextet
and is a Tanguillo 4/4 in Dm.

http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo118.html

The chords of the Tanguillo are as follows
This chord progression twice.

A7, A7 ,gm ,gm ,gm ,C7 ,C7 ,Bb7 , A7 ,A7.

and then bridge twice.

A7, A7, F, F, C#, C#, A7, A7.

You can use this video lesson to play the theme and soloing phrases, as well as to explore your improvisation, for example:

A7 = V7b9
(on this chord you can use:

1)
Bb minor melodic scale
(the rule is: for the degree V7b9 use minor melodic scale from the b2th of the chord.)
(for guitar players, here is the lesson on the fingerings that Paco uses, in case you don’t remember http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo105.html )

2)
A Phrygian (with the major 3rd)

3)
Bb chains if minor 3ths (the rule is: for the dominant chords like in this case the degree V7b9 use of chains of minor 3 ths from the b2th of the chord )
………………………………………………………………

Gm = IVm
(on this chord you can use:

1)
A Phrygian = F major scale = G Dorian.

2)
Bb chains of minor 3 th
(the rule is: for minor chords like in this case the degree IVm use of chains of minor 3 ths from the root or from b3th of the chord)
(for guitar players here is the lesson on the chains, in case you don’t remember http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo99.html )

3)
Bb symmetric scale
(the rule is as you know: for minor chords like in this case the degree IVm use of symmetric scale from the root or from b3th of the chord)

4)
Am Pentatonic
(notes A, C, D, E, G, over gm chord )
(the rule is: for minor chords like in this case the degree IVm use minor Pentatonic scale from the 2th of the chord, John Mc Laughlin uses a lot this color while describing melodically a minor chord and it has a beautiful Dorian flavour… )

if you want to sound modal play F major scale = G Dorian

(for guitar players, here is the lesson on the fingerings that Paco uses on major scales, in case you want to use them) http://www.rdiaz.org/rdvideo104.html

and you know for the rest of the chords…!

Enjoy!

your friend
Ruben Diaz
info@rdiaz.org

Post-grad studies in IT

Hello all.

I used to post here, a while ago. I never was really noteworthy, so I don't expect anyone to remember me.

I've come back to seek advice, maybe start a little discussion, regarding my endeavors to enroll for post - graduate studies in the US or Canada, the latter being a country of which the citizenship I enjoy.

I'm studying Computer Science in the Department of Informatics of the University of Athens, Greece. It's been going well, remarkably well, actually, taking into account that the years that an average undergrad in my school needs to graduate is six to seven (it's a Bachelor's degree, so, in the strict sense, one needs four years to complete the undergraduate program), and the average GPA is 6.00. It's a tough school. I expect to be finishing at 5 years tops (June 2011) and my GPA will revolve somewhere around 8.00 to 8.00 minus.

However, the vibes I'm getting from the other side of the Atlantic, especially regarding the requirements of various universities, are not very positive. Relevant discussion among colleagues makes it rather clear that I'm gonna need a GPA of at least 8.5, and that's not gonna happen, unless I get to writing straight tens in all my courses, another feat that is bound to not happen, for reasons that I do not always control. I am also not a very wealthy person, I could be characterized as lower middle class. This raises concern as to how I might be able to pay for my studies. Draw a loan? Get a scholarship?

My main question to you, and one which I have to admit might be too generic to fully answer to, is whether you would have any universities with a strong IT department to suggest to a person with a GPA not higher than 8.00. Any reputable universities other than the obvious M.I.T and Berkeley (which would not accept me by a longshot, anyways) that you would suggest? What about McGill, Montreal? What's the opinion of Canadians for McGill? When I was about to start my undergraduate studies I came into contact with Concordia, Montreal, but it didn't work out.

The financial part is one that I cannot ask advice for, and will have to solve on my own.

I understand that I'm probably not asking the people I ought to in the first place, but I'm in the middle of a general Internet search, and I don't think I can afford to lose any advice I'm able to take.

Thank you for your time.
