smile.gif Hey all! smile.gif

I'm Nicky and im 13 years old. I have recently began playing the guitar about 3 moths ago and I take lessons. But my guitar is very strange. It is an Alvarez acoustic guitar. I'm in a band and Im really into rock music. I want to play electric but i can't yet. And to do alot of songs im learning, i need to play the higher frets. But i dont have very many frets. And those that I do have and want to play make a buzzing noise. No matter how much pressure or how close I am to the fret, it buzzes! Is there anything I can do about this??

blink.gif So conufused! Any response would help me!

Thanks alot

~Nicky K

If you feel that your technique is good, then have the guitar looked at. If the action on the guitar is too high, then you need more pressure to make a clean note. If the action on the guitar is too low at the bridge, then your fretting may produce buzzing along the fingerboard. Best bet, as I said, is to have a tech look at it.

I'm taking Dadfad's position on this one tongue.gif ... First off Welcome to GTU!

I'd suggest getting it looked at too. Bring it to where you bought it. If there is something wrong with it then the store might fix it. If not then hopfully its still under warrenty! ohmy.gif .. Anyways good luck with that.

Hey thanks for ur information.
but i didnt get it at a store
i know my guitar is not very good, its a alvarez model # RC10
I got it from my uncle. he plays bass guitar in a band and he gave me this guitar to just start playing guitar. I want to get an electric guitar really bad. Im planning on my uncle hook me up with a vintage Gibson SG (yeah i know, SWEET!)

Find comfort in the fact that if you manage to control that guitar you've got, by the time you'll get an electric you'll find it's much easier to play (lower action, less tension), which boosts your ego no end wink.gif

the buzzing might also be caused by the nut (the (usually white) thing at the fretboard end where the guitar's head is at) which can be badly cut or worn from years of use, see if that's what causing the buzzing (they're cheap to replace)

What sucks on cheap guitars, is between the action, the fret board/frets, sometimes you get hosed on the lower frets(15-21). I have a epiphone and mine also rattles/has dead notes towards teh bottom of the fret board(closest to the sound hole).

I have tried everything from lowering the action to changing strings...nothing has helped for me so far...

Taking it to a tech. could help, I haven't tried that yet either.

But really at the stage you are in learning, you don't really need to be down that far aways...unless you have scales that bring you that far down.

As for wanting an electric, I would PROMISE you that if you stay with the acoustic for about 6 months ANYTHING you learn will cross-over to the electric, but if you learn right away on the electric, the acoustic will seem hard!

The reason people say that acoustic is harder after you've started on the electric is that the action is higher, and the strings are of a higher gauge.
