I'm looking for some relatively simple songs that use mostly chords, all the songs I've learned so far have been mostly picking so I thought I should try more chords.

What styles?
Look for songs by the Beatles, the Byrds, the Kinks, and other bands in that vein.

I'm not to concerned with the style as long as I can play it, most of the music I really like I can't find on the internet, but I'm open to anything I can play that sounds good biggrin.gif

Rod Stewart - Maggie May
James Taylor - Sweet Baby James
Ben Harper - The Drugs Don't Work
Bob Dylan - Knockin On Heavens Door
Bob Seger - Night Moves
The Kinks - All Day and All of the Night

that should get you on your way

Hey Joe can be done very simply on an acoustic using the open chords C, G D, A and E.
Un-plugged is not the same as
never-was-plugged-in-to-begin-with.

are you kidding? if jeff beck weren't such an egotist, rod stewart would be like another robert plant (no joke). they were a "supergroup" but fell apart because lack of writing talent. you only know the "forever young" and "hot legs" rod stewart... you need to listen to some "rock my plimstone" and "shapes of things" rod stewart. that's good stuff there.

Well I just wrote a progression...uses all the chords in the key of C:

Play this:

C major-
E-X(use thumb on top mutes)
A-3
D-2
G-0
B-1
e-0

D minor-
E-X
A-0
D-0
G-2
B-3
e-1

G major-
E-3
A-2
D-0
G-0
B-2
e-2

E minor-
E-0
A-2
D-2
G-0
B-0
e-0

A minor-
E-X
A-0
D-2
G-2
B-1
e-0

F major(barre)-
E-1-
A-3-
D-3-
G-2-
B-1-
e-1-

G major-
E-3
A-2
D-0
G-0
B-2
e-2

F major(barre)-
E-1-
A-3-
D-3-
G-2-
B-1-
e-1-

C major-
E-X
A-3
D-2
G-0
B-1
e-0

This is a good way to get to know 6 chords or so, and has some semi-diff. transfers. Start slow, and work your way faster/more complicated strumming.

Hey gang,
I am also new to the site. I played guitar for several years in my youth, put it down for 20 years. Six weeks ago I bought a new Fender GD 47S.
Just now getting used to the chords again.

I appreciate the short list of songs for the newbie...

Enjoy the exchanges..... no graphics here... too old to figure out

Welcome to GTU. I see you're a Cajun player. I'm not, but I had the honor of playing with Dewey Balfa a couple of times in the late '80s. Amazing musician and great music. Anyway, welcome to GTU! smile.gif
