hey, i want to get into some fingerstyle playing. are there any records you would recommend. im not totally new to fingerstyle, i first started on some of those 'opeth' acoustic songs, now i want to move on to some more advanced stuff (maybe not too crazy).
i might check out some Tommy Emmanuel albums, whats his best all acoustic album? (i have 2 old albums where its more 80's pop instrumental with keyboards etc) but i have heard some excellent acoustic stuff (probally more recent) but i dont know what albums its on.......suggestions
and where can i find good tab for stuff like that?

Well, check this: http://www.guitartab...showtopic=86233
There is alot of good reccomendations in there for fingerstyled songs, and they aren't all "advanced" as the title would suggest, but some are pretty tricky. And compared to Tommy Emmanual, they are piece of piss
As for where you can find the tabs for these... well, all across the net. For a start you're on a site called guitarTABS!
Try searching for the songs. If you have powertab you can get some good acoustic tabs from here:
http://acousticpower.com/
and here:
http://www.powertabs.net/
There hundreds of tab sites on the net so just go to google and type in "Tommy Emmanuel tab" and you'll get a whole heap of sites. Have fun

There are quite a few ways you can go with your fingerpicking.
You may try a classical approach, or a more rythmic alternate bass, like in country blues.
I think it's better to go with alternate bass, because getting it helps at classical stuff too. And classical stuff doesn't help much for alternate thumb.
So at this stage, if you're confident with arpeggiated songs, try alternate bass line.
I'll be back in a minute and give you a link to Dadfad's post on that.
Edit: Here it is:

First I did just the bass line in front of the TV, then started adding certain trebble sounds. Then melodies... just anything simple you can harmonize with 3-4 chords, folk melodies, christmass carols, etc, always with the bass line.
You can hear what I did in that period on my soundclick. It's called Saints (When the Saints Go Marching). Now I can do it faster than that and much more fluently. That's a sort of worm-up whenever I pick a guitar in standard tuning.

You should check out guitartricks.com and look at their fingerstyle tricks.
Actually, I learned a lot from a user called Nathan Hahn on their. He has his own 9 page Fingerstyle Technique lesson on their.
Here's the link:

Well here is am little lick I wrote and is pretty easy...simple plucking pattern and has a cool little traveling bassline:
Pattern goes like so:
e--------------------------------------
B----Middle----------Middle----------
G--------Pointer----------Pointer-----
D-----Thumb----------Thumb--------
A-Thumb----------Thumb-------------
E----------------------------------------
e------------------------------------------------------------------
B----3----------3----------3----------3----------3----------3----
G--------0----------0----------0----------0----------0----------0
D-----2----------2----------0----------0----------0----------0---
A-3----------3----------2----------2----------0----------0--------
E--------------------------------------------------------------------
e------------------------------------------------------------------
B----3----------3----------3----------3----------3----------3----
G--------0----------0----------0----------0----------0----------0
D-----0----------0----------0----------0----------0----------0---
A-3----------3----------2----------2----------0----------0--------
E--------------------------------------------------------------------
That is pretty simple but will let you do some finger plucking and it can be pretty fun once you get going on it. Mkaing that bassline move around and stuff is super fun...let me know if you liked it.
