Strumming isn't something you can just pick up and do. YOu have to practice so you can hit the strings you want, when you want to.
Best way to do it is to count along with the song...splitting it into the up-strokes and the down-strokes...usually on down strokes you hit the top strings harder to give a nice beat...unless you are just strumming the bottom strings...and then you do upstrokes for the melody.
Try and listen to the song and figure out the strumming pattern...do that by using the 'ole' 1 + 2 + 3 + 4. Where the numbers are the downstrokes and the "+" are the upstrokes.
There are endless combinations so it'll take time to be able to pick them up.
Some examples are:
1 2 + 3 + 4
1 + 2 3 4
Say out the numbers and the "+" symbols and see if you can tell how they are different.
These are jsut some I made up off the top of my head...but you should be able to tell how they are different.
Strumming is an art...some people are naturally talented...some need to work a lot...no way to cheat...just practice on your rhythm.
If you can tap your foot along to the beat it will help to get your strumming in rhythm with the music...
Hope this helps,

good advice Troy. Another thing would be to listen to the song...and "air strum" along with the song...that way you can get a feel for it.

not that my advice is sound at all... ive only been playing for 2 years.
I love this song. What i found easier was...to play this song without a pick. What that allowed me to do was to use different fingers and my palm and heel of my hand. ( each finger becoming a pick essentially) This soung seems to sound pretty good playng the chords kind of choppy. taking the pick away from this particular song makes it darker and more personal.
on the grave digger album i prefer the acoustic version which is where ive based my style on.
im sure this does nothing for ya..but if it does... then im stoked!
enjoy this great song!

Good advice also. Nothing wrong with not using a pick.
