Well, my Hofner is no more. She had an accident and was beyond repair. unsure.gif So to ease the grieving I decided I needed a new guitar. I went to the store I got the Hofner at to see if they had any more, and they didn't. Then the salesman totally got me with this Alvarez RD-8. For $200 he gave me the guitar(retail said $300) and my very first hardcase. wink.gif I played it in the store and fell head over heals!! wub.gif It sounds like angels singing and all that. Plays soooo smooth, and has black binding on the body and neck(that sealed the deal). Solid mahogany back, neck, and sides, and select spuce top. Beautiful...Finest instrument I've ever owned(yeah, I'm blue-collar). So a round of drinks to GTU, barkeep. biggrin.gif

I've been here since 11/06/01 and I've never been a GTUer of the month. It's 08. I rock.

Just got my baby last saturday; £279. It's surprising how little you need to pay to get a perfectly good guitar smile.gif

I haven't christened her yet though... I was thinking Louise. Yes? No?

Very classic...My Hofner was Mira, and I too need to name the new giter. wink.gif Probably hang Mira's old dog tags on her, too.

Note: Mira can be seen with me in the Discussion forum under the Pic Posting Marathon thread. smile.gif

I propped her up against a wall at my girlfriend's and it slid down smashing into the ground. The fretboard split from the neck to the 7th fret. sad.gif It was wide open. My other guitars aren't up to par, so I had to get a new one. wink.gif I'm happy with my new one, but it sucks I had to lose Mira. dry.gif I don't think I'll go all sticker and drawing crazy this time, though. biggrin.gif

Yeah that's like possessively over-clothing her. A simple pickguard covers up all the delecate areas so she still keeps her dignity.

Not sure what color you went with but I think I saw black binding on this one...I know the pic is huge, but it shows good detail!

Looks like a pretty good deal, esp. since Alverez makes some good guitars...and the hardshell case is an added plus smile.gif

Congrats, good purchase!

Congratulations, Che'. I have an Alvarez and it's a pretty nice guitar. Plays well and sounds damn good too. Yeah, lay off the bumper-stickers for awhile! laugh.gif

I agree I paid 400 + a trade in (about 600 total) for my takamine. Recently I went looking at Taylors and Martins in the 1000 - 1500$ range, I found that they didn't have anything over my takimine.

I myself don't have a pick guard...and I am trying to wear away the finish...I want her to be shameless cool.gif

Sweet man. I have an RD-8. It is a pretty good guitar(Espescially for the $$$). It plays really well to be an inexpensive guitar. Sounds pretty good too. Actually i think i'm gonna go play mine right now...(ever since i got my Martin I haven't played the Alvarez as much...shame on me wink.gif )

My classical guitar named Bianca doesn't have a pickguard neither does my steel string named Clarice, they're a bit hoochy. I'm trying to wear the finish on them a little bit, it's adds character, but it's not easy when you don't use a pick very often, my nails are getting more worn than the finish.

classical guitars dont have a pick guard becuase they are not meant to be played with a plectrum.

Well no crap.
