In that price range the electronics you get aren't going to be the best. Take it from me, I got a electric/acoustic cutaway for about 300, a little cheaper, and mine when amp'd is barely even worth having it amp'd. I think I have about twice since I bought it, and neither time was it anything special...

I feel strongly that unless you need the convience of a simple plug-in connection, go with a standard and you'll get better bang for the buck...less money is wasted on electronics that don't even work that well.

I am talking about my Epiphone, but it is prolly similar with other lower range guitars. Make sure to test it out on an amp before hand!

Here is some models to check out though:

Ibanez

Fender

Another Ibanez

Washburn

Those are all around 300...

i have an epiphone and i think it is better than some fender and yamaha guitars and can compare with some alvarez and ibanez guitars......

i dont know to much about gibson epiphones and how the other models are but mine is really good. well maybe it is just the models and types i have seen but i think epiphone aint that bad. i guess you are talking about a really cheap model of epiphone. what model is yours anyways wannalearn?

AJ Series Epiphone Acoustic/Electric cut-away
Vintage Sunburst
3-band EQ

It is pretty good, it is a cut-away jumbo(AJ=acoustic jumbo) with a cheap looking 3 band EQ...

It is a good first guitar but after playing better ones, I know where mine stands.

Hey, do you know if you have a trust rod? I was looking for the adjustment bolt on mine and I couldn't find it...it would have to have one I thought.

Can you get Crafter guitars in the States? If you can,try one out.

Wannalearn, the trussrod on a jumbo, and most acoustics with a soundhole is inside the guitar's body. You have to remove the strings,or at least slacken them way down to get at it.If you're not sure what you're doing, take it to someone who does.

However, there are books on home guitar set-ups,"Electric Guitar Setups" by a guy called Hideo Kamimoto has been a great help to me.

Hey im not for sure, but i dont think the AJ stands for acoustic jumbo. Ive played this epi he has, and it feels a lil thin to be a jumbo, well not like any others that ive ever played.

u could try fenders line of tele and stratacoustics. Im thinkin its the easiest way to get a fender and also the cheapest. Its a lot lighter than most electrics too. Im assuming that you still want a thin line guitar but there are not many great ones out there. I have played both the strat and telecoustic guitars and founf them to be just as nice as my martin acoustic which is not as bulky as most acoustic guitars and it sure as hell is 10 times more durable than most mid ranged guitars

Features a solid spruce top, mahogany body, and rosewood fretboard. Diamond mother-of-pearl inlays and special 12th-fret bar inlay combine with body and neck binding and gold hardware to make it a visual feast. Piezo bridge with parametric EQ cranks out resonant acoustic sound.

Features:

Solid spruce top
Mahogany body and neck
Rosewood fretboard
Body and neck binding
Gold hardware
Piezo bridge with parametric EQ

Link to the picture...

Someone check this out and tell me if it looks like a jumbo...I wanna say I read somewhere the AJ means acoustic jumbo...but I might be mistaken.
*EDIT* Other AJ-series say "advanced jumbo"...its not nearly as big as a southern jumbo...but not as thin as a thinline either.

*On a side note, I found out mine has a solid spruce top, and is now discontinued...

Isn't the jumbo-or-dreadnaughtness affected only by the body shape, not thickness?

Im not for sure, i believe it is body shape as well as thickness. My guitar is a alvarez dreadnought thinline, and troys AJ isnt that much bigger than mine.

Yeah, looking at the picture, it doesn't look very jumbo. Doesn't look like a dreadnaught either, haha.

well on my epiphone the truss rod in under a plate thingy on the neck you have to unscrew the small plate thingy on the neck and then you can see the truss rod........is there any difference between where the truss rod is located because i have seen some in the guitar just kinda right where the fret board ends in a block of wood and how does it affect the guitar?

My and troy were discussing that the other day. Like on mine you can look into the soundhole, look up a lil and see it coming down from the neck. But, on troys it doesnt have it there, Where would his truss rod be?

sorry i didnt mean neck but i meant the headstock of the guitar. there is a little plate thing that says Gibson between the tuning machines. you have to unscrew that plate and the truss rod is inside the wood right under the nut. i dont know to much about where truss rod locations on different gibsons though. it has to be somewhere along the neck or headstock.............if you really cant find it then check DADFAD he should know biggrin.gif

Yea I am not sure...I know mine is thicker(depth) than Josh's thinline by about 1/4 inch or so.

I think mine is under that thing at the top of the head stock...thats says Gibson AJ...like on your LP that says gibson...just under that little plate...

I'm not sure what makes a jumbo or not...or a dreadnought...what do these titles mean? lol

Jumbo, dreadnought, folk etc. are all the builds/bodystyles of the different guitars. And yes troy, i think that is the reason why you have one the those metal peices on your coustic and mine doesnt.
