So it's the summer of fingerpicking. All the classical stuff has been coming nicely but I now want a true challenge.

I've always liked jazz so I wondered if you's people know some tabs for nice jazz songs on acoustic guitar, with nasty complex chords, bass runs and octave melodies or something...

Or maybe you know some great songs you could mention, it doesn't have to be strictly done by acoustic guitar, as long as it can be played on one.

I'm right now having a crack at a transcription of my favourite things, and it's fantastically hard, so no rush guys wink.gif

Anything by Django! The man was a machine...(Or as they say in Mexico, a machina) Any way try some Brian Sutton. He's amazing.

wes montgomery- ANY and ALL of his songs. his use of octaves and his playing style will blow your mind!!!!!!

pat metheny- listen to ALL of his stuff too but try to get "bright size life", it was his (i think) first album, came out in the late 70's, and he was just a teenager. lots of great playing plus Jaco Pastorius plays bass for him on the album. originally played on electric but i play most of it on acoustic cause that's all i have... biggrin.gif

george benson- listen to "breezin" and "affirmation" two of his songs i like best. a lot of his stuff is really jazzy and he does this skat type thing where he will sing along with whatever lines he plays on guitar. you just gotta hear it and you will see.......
"breezin" is a basic I-IV-II-V (Dmajor7, Bminor7, Eminor7, A7) jazz progression and is fun to improv and jam along with.

i have more i just cant think right now...ill get back to you later

oh yeah also go to www.mp3.com and search for any of those musicians and it gives you a list of theirs albums and a overview of their career and some background info. there you can check out and listen to samples of the musicians music. it is a great site to just check out some songs and see if you like an album or musician/artist whatever.......

search a musician and then go to their page........if you click on summary it will give you important albums and songs and info about the artist........click next to a song title where it shows a green button of speakers and it will play a little part of the song.

you can also get the full list of all their albums and then from there you can also listen to a sample of each song from any album(if they have it available).

Thanks for the suggestions people! I seem to like Leo Kottke's stuff best so far, I've studied a bit of Django before but I'll def. look into it again smile.gif

Peter Finger......yeeeow!!!! That guy has an outrageous attack. I have a CD of various fingerstyle guitarists that has his song, "Getaway" that is just flat out mind-blowing.

I found some of his stuff and tabs in a guitar magazine. Never bothered to learn it, because he's so impractical, he uses his own trademark tuning EBEGAD. That's why I never bothered to learn his tunes. But they're great to listen to.

I been looking into the same thing as you. go on amazon.com and search what you are looking for. you can then either buy it or download the songs you see. try downloading 'jazz in the box' by doyle dykes. i can send it you if you can't find it. it's truly inspiring.
