hi, i havent been playin that long (almost a year) and i own an inexpensive acoustic guitar in addition to my electric. but i dont like playing it often because the strings are very heavy and thick and the guitar has high action so its literally a pain to play! but i still luv the tone i get from them, and im not sure what gauge the strings but i know they are Martin. What kind of strings do u recommend i put on that are lighter but still sounds good? oh and is their any way i can lower the action on my guitar?

Another way to lower the action on many guitars is to remove a shim or two from under the saddle.

Under the plastic part that the string bends around on the saddle...goes across the strings...there can be shims. Next time you change strings you can check...jsut slide that part off of the saddle when all strings are off...and if they are there..you'll see them.

Complete write-up of above

If your acoustic is realyl inexpesive, there might be little you can do with the action. Some, esp. cheaper learner guitars, have a high action b.c they are made bad, and you can't really adjust those too much...but don't let that discourage you from playing, just get a lighter string gauge. My acoustic has desent action but when I first started it was too high for me, so what I did is went with the lightest strings I could find(easier to push down), and strang them up. Elixur has some super lights that are super light...lol...and are pretty easy to work with.

Check out the above posts/links and see if you can adjust it any lower, and then let us know sometime.

You can either tighten the truss rod in the neck (just a little bit, like a quarter turn a day) or take it to the shop and ask them to adjust the action. It may cost a few bucks, but it'll be easier to play.
