In my opinion, best stay away from Fender. You might think different though, try playing it.

Why not try out a Simon & Patrick??...my mate Kenny (Chaos Ross's dad) has one...light as a feather...gorgeous tone, decent action, nice finish...and it's a Canadian make, so it should be cheaper over there, I imagine (his was about 300GBP) ... biggrin.gif

I agree with the previous caller...don't buy a Fender...you'll get a Yamaha which is at least as good for much less..

If you go in to a store with 400 bucks, they'll be delighted to separate you from it...so try out the range...take your time...don't just buy on impulse...walk away and have a coffee or something

i think the fender acoustics ive played lack any form of bass and are much too expensive, seeing as you are in canada check out art and luthrie, and another brand called seagull, they are both canadian made if i recall right, i think art and luthry is a subsidry of seagull, and if you get a chance check out a higher end tanara, they are really quite good fro the prices (tanara is owned somewhere in the pacific northwest i think

I've just never been impressed with any I've tried (and I own a Strat, so I'm by no means anti-Fender)...I think you're paying extra for the name... biggrin.gif

greetings you all in this forums hehe laugh.gif

Im one of the newbees here

I have pretty intentions of buying a guitar. Thing is Im not allowed to go beyond an electric guitar, my folks dont want you see....

So what type of guitar would be good.
I already have a classical guitar, the one with the small body but big neck, the type where you attach nylon strings. Sorry i dont really know how to describe them.

By the way what are the classifications of guitars?

I tried an Alvarez md60, cedar top around $ 400, the sound was fabulous or so it seemed in the little room I played it in. Has anyone had experience with this guitar ?

My experience with Fender acoustics is they lack a good feel and have an uninspired tone. They're probably built OK for the $$, but if an acoustic guitar doesn't have tone or feel than for me it's not worth much. Now, as for Fender electrics, that's another story......

you could still find something better than a fender for $400...such as:

dean
some seagulls
ibanez
alverez
takamine
epiphone
breedlove
yamaha
washburn

the ones in bold are probably the better buys off this list. but they're all better then fender acoustics.

I totally agree. Once again try these out, thats the only way you will know for sure. Trust me if you try these other guitars you will change your mind unless your totally into wanting to get a Fender. Good Luck.

Are we talking about the same fender acoustics that im thinking of.All the fender acoustics ive ever played have been cheap ply crap made in china or somewhere. You certainly wouldnt pay 400 for one.You can pick them up brand spanking for about a ton. They aint like fender electrics.

Or do fender make a proper acoustic.

Nope - not under the Fender brand name.

I agree that Fender acoustics lack certain qualities, but I'd take issue with Epiphone and Dean being mentioned as "better". Nor would I blanket classify all those brands as better than Fenders. I also wouldn't consider Breedlove in the same class as the above mentioned guitars (they are more on par with middle-line Martins and Taylors, only with alternative woods.)

I agree with that statement in a sense. Breedlove's more expensive guitars is definitely up there with Martins, Gibsons, and Taylors but they came out with a cheaper series called the atlas series that ranges from the $270-$700 range if I'm correct that would compete with the guitars mentioned on the list. In any case check them out, all I have heard is good stuff about them. Good luck.

I do believe I saw some really great looking Breedlove's in Musiciansfriend with solid tops and backs for under 600 bucks, with pretty decent electronics as well.

I really don't like Fender acoustics, I think these are pretty good brands
Epiphone Masterbilt series (all solid woods for under 500 bucks sometimes!)
Takamine
Martin
Taylor
Breedlove
Larivee
Ibanez
Seagull
Samick
sometimes Washburn
A & L

The ones I put in bold are probably gonna offer the best deal for the least money, good luck, I hope our info helps.

i think you guys are full of crap. i own a fender acoustic, and i sounds like a treat. i also own a maton, which has a much different sound, but is fantastic all the same. my fender has a solid spruce top, with mahogany back, sides and neck and has a bass end that you feel in your chest. when looking into buying a good acoustic it is not the brand that is of interest. the timber quality is the key here guys. remember that you BUY ###### TWICE, and guitars made with sub-standard materials will eventually need replacing. being an australian, i am biased towards maton guitars, primarily due to their utilisation of high quality australian native timbers. these guitars rock. in many of the lower end models, sitka spruce is still used as the sound board, however as the price increases, so does the quality. timbers such as blackwood (acacia melanoxylon), bunya pine (araucaria bidwillii) and queensland maple (flindersia brayleana) are used and are of the same quality (if not better) than their northern hemisphere counterparts. the best thing about using aussie timbers is that by doing so, maton guitars are not contributing to the decline of old growth forest. a AAA grade quality sitka spruce soundboard comes out of at least a 350yr old tree. the same tonal qualities can be found in a bunya pine soundboard, that comes from a plantation, run on an 80yr rotation!!
