I've fell in love with Taylor guitars and everytime I play one it just feels awesome. I'm a big fan of the CE models with the cutaway and the rounder body style. I was just wondering what everybody else who has one thinks of them. Thanks.

Taylors are awesome! My buddy has the 610ce and I love it to death; I am pobably gonna get the 314 when I can. For some reason the action on the Martin's were lower than the taylors I played but the taylor tone is amazing.

i agree with gcd. i love my taylor. i just bought it last week. its sound great and the tone like he said, is the best. nomatter which one you pick all are high quality.
i looked at Martins, Takamines, Epiphones, their good but at a high price. the lower priced martins, taka's and epiphones, are really not that good compared to the taylors. taylors sound good on any price but thats just my opinion.

I am a Martin man but I have played Taylors and they feel and sound good to me. They seem well-built and although I don't know for a fact they must have a good warranty. I've heard rumor that Taylor cuts their tops thinner than other manufacturers--if that's true I wonder what long-term affect that could have on the integrity of the guitars (Taylor has only been in business since the 1970's).

Everytime I go to Guitar Center, I always pick up a Martin. I don't know what's wrong with the Taylors, but they just don't do it for me. I mean the High Priced ones are ok, but the Martin's just feel more comfortable and sound better to me.

That's just me though. Don't get me wrong, Taylors are great, it's just not my cup of tea. smile.gif

i also agree on the martins. my first choice to buy was the D-15 but failed to raise the money so went with the taylor. but i can feel axslinger, i always pick up a martin guitar and play when i go to guitar center. their the best but just expensive, but you can never put a price on quality.

I've had a 514CE for 3 years or so and I love it. The tone is amazing (everybody comments on it) and the playablilty is fantastic (other players can't believe it).

I tried Martins and just about everything else and nothing matched it for me!

so buster,

would you say that your taylor has aged well, and (could/is it going to) age better? i've always just wondered about the aging process of them.

i'm a fingerpicker and i play more modern stuff on my acoustic (jack johnson, ben harper, etc...) so i like a bouncy tone... taylor's do exactly that.

they are insanely comfortable. i actually knew i wanted to buy my taylor just by holding it. the neck fits my hand like a glove, the action makes playing effortless. and it projects like nothing else with new strings. and the fact that there's no surcharge for lefties made me a HUGE fan of taylors (i know martin does the same, but gibson are a bunch of asses.)

I've only played one gibson acoustic that I liked. But I have to admit, IT WAS NICE!!!!! I was in complete and utter awe. It also cost $5000 sad.gif

A thinner top would mean it would resonate more and should give it a little more volume. But it will also mean its not as durable when put under the tension of the strings.A top thats too thin could suffer damage over the years.Really you should decide on a tops thickness by looking at the stiffness of the top.Different bit of wood are stiffer than others even if they are the same wood.Genrally i find between 2.5mm and 2.7mm to be about right. Can go a bit thinner with classicals. But i cant see any factory made guitar company doing that. They will just do them all the same and run them through a thicknessing machine. The thickness used with vary from company to company.

As far as the original question goes im personly a gibson bloke but Taylor do make good guitars no doubt about that. The one thing i dont like is the bolt on neck. Not because it does anything to the sound or anything but just because im a bit of a trditionalist when it comes to lutherie and i like the old slopeing dove tale joint. Its more for looks than anything.I just like to do things the old way.

taylors are great! I am playing a 712 at the moment actually and I love it. You just have to get used to the wider than normal neck. peace.

I think martin's sound terrible. To me taylors sound a bit thin. They haven't been around long, which dosn't make them bad because If I have a guitar for 35 years I'd sure I'd be fine with that. Personally, I'm a gibson man. If I ever get some money and out of the university housing, that's what I'm getting. I'm gonna get a 185ec. Right now, on my budget, alvarez does the trick.

What?!? Please justify that. I have never heard a Martin that I think sounded bad. Some better than others, but never one that sounded "terrible".

I don't see how you say Martins are terrible but thats just your opinion, and to be honest I haven't found a Gibson that is under $2000 that will sound as good as a Taylor under the $2000 range.

agreed, because he probably spent loads of money on his Gibson, and is jealous that he could've bought a better sounding Martin for less.

personally, i havnt tried a gibson yet so i wont say anything about them, but i play taylors and martins all the time and i havn't encountered a "teririble" guitar. i dont want to agree with these other guys saying your jealous, but i think their right. you probably drank too many beers and hit your head someplace. laugh.gif
what you should do is go to your nearest guitar center and try them out again, so the other kids wont tease you. (dont take this personal. just trying to help)
