So im playing my acoustic guitar at a friends house and he wanted me to sing a song for him...and normally I would do it fine...but when I sung out of the bass amp it sounded horrible, flat, bad sounding. Is it just me....or is it like this always.

My brother used to sing through a big old bass amp I had, it always had a kind of meaty sound to it...a thicker sound, can't really explain it.
He sings in a punk band and liked the distortion it had, one thing that made a big differance though was the mic he used.
Cheap one really distorted the voice and made it sound like you described, once he'd brought a proper professional mic it helped make things clearer and made the tone much more rounded so it included the higher end sounds.
Sorry, been a long long day so this isn't the clearest I can put it.

the guy in my old band used to sing through a bass amp. he blamed everything on it- every week he would come in and say how he wanted to use a pa so that it would sound good- but one thing to remember, what you sing through won't affect your tuning, timing and skills- it will affect your tone but for band practises it will do. there is a problem when the person blames theamp for their timing and their pitch as the guy i know was doing, plus the amp he was using was very transparent and hardly affected the tone at all- all the problems were his own.
