I am starting to save up some money to get my first acoustic guitar. So far, I have about 230 bucks saved up, and I'm wanting to get a good guitar that also plays well. I'm willing to save up a bit of money, as much as I possibly can, so I can get a good one that will last me awhile.
Should I go for a Martin? Or maybe a Taylor? I'm thinking my range will go up to about 800 bucks or so, so I'm just wanting to know what your guys' experiences are with buying acoustic guitars, especially Martins or Taylors. Are there good models that are cheaper? Just looking for some input and advice.

Honestly it depends on what you want to get. My first guitar was a Takamine G-230 which cost me $200. I then got a Takamine EG-334SBC and then the Taylor 314 that I have now. I would suggest if you have the money and are dedicated to learn and not give up on playing to get whatever you can afford. for $800 you can get a really nice guitar. I saw a 2000 or 2001 model Taylor 814 for $1100 used at the guitar center which is a damn good deal, too bad I already bought my 314. You should also try out a different range of guitars before you buy one. People will tell you to buy a Martin or Taylor for example but you might not like the tone and the feel of those and end up getting an Ibanez which is also a great guitar. Obviously with more money you can get a better quality guitar but keep in mind with big names you are paying for the brand. Hope this helped and good luck.
