Hey guys! I just got invited to go to a fingerpicking workshop in a couple of months. My uncle is hosting it, and he got the 2002 and 2004 fingerpicking champion to teach. I can't remember his name, though he is a great player. But anyway, have you guys ever been to workshops before? Fingerpicking workshops?

I've attended a number of them and taught at a few myself. I highly recommend good music workshops (not all are good, or worth the money). You might mean a guy named Bob Evans, who won in 2003 and came in second in 2002. The 2004 winner (Keith Taylor) had never came in first, second, or third before. I know a few guys who have won or placed in the top three..... Brad Jones (a first and third), Pat Kirtley (a first and third) and Mary Flower (I went to a workshop by her not long ago. She's a two-time third place winner.) (I'm assuming you meant the National Championships in Winfield, Kansas) Anyway, you can learn a lot from a good workshop, especially the ones that last several days or a week. I'd go if I were you. Learn a lot and have fun!

If you're ever interested, I have friends who have them in Teleuride and in Dubois, Wyoming every year. That's not too far from Idaho.

Telluride Link

Dubois Link

They aren't cheap.

Another excellent one is the Puget Sound Workshop and (probably the oldest and possibly the best) the Augusta Heritage Arts Workshop in West Virginia (there's a link on the page on my profile-card).

Thanks DADFAD, I think it it Bob Evans. i'm not sure. but thaks for the clarification. Just another example of your endles knowledge. wink.gif
But i'm really looking forward to it. I've been trying to get my guitar buddies to go with me, but none of them are really interested in that style. It's a shame isn't it?

Yes it is. Too few guitarists realize that "it's all good" when it comes to learning. Even if a particular genre isn't your preferred style, learning from a great guitarist will give you insight and skills that can be applied across the board to any style. Anyway, have fun!
