Hi! I'm Major Major or The Major if you like, and I've taken up moderating here. smile.gif

Where's Sixgunsound? He owes us money!

Last we heard he got into some Peyote and is now wanted by the police in several states, So I'll be filling in.

Here are a few rules for posting in this forum. I know these are going to seem a little strict for the people who have posted here before, but this isn't the Discussion Forum, so abide by these new rules or your topics will be edited.

How do I request a song?

If you want to request a specific song, make a new topic. You must put the name of the artist in the title. As well, you must include the name of the song in the title.

For example:

Led Zeppelin
Black Dog

What if I want to write "PLEasE TaB tHis FOr mE?!"?

If you decide to use this as your topic's title, I will modify the title for you, or delete it, depending on how much patience I have at that particular moment.
If you don't want to take the chance that I might delete your topic, make sure you follow the rules.

Can I name my topic "Urgent! Need this tab!" or "Please Tab This!"

No. I will delete any topics like this from now on.

What if I don't know the song name or the artist name

If you want to request just a specific band, just write the name of the band in the topic title. If you don't know the band but know the name of the song, just write that. Someone will probably let you know who wrote it, and I can modify the title for you.

Should I make a topic like this "Please Tab anything from _________ album"?

No. Request specific songs if possible. People aren't mind readers.

Can I post tabs in a new thread and request that they be changed into chords or vice versa?

No. Don't do this or I will lock your thread. If you want a song tabbed or in chords, just make a request. There is no need to post the tab in a thread. Firstly, nobody will do it. Secondly, it always formats poorly because nobody uses the [ tab ] [ /tab ] tags that Rob made for us.

What if I want to start a topic offering tabbing services?

That is certainly helpful. Thanks for offering your time to GTU! If you really want to help you can go through the archived threads and see the old requests that still haven't been touched. However, I won't just delete your thread. If you are offering help we'll let it stay until it gets silly.

Can I just leave my email address and expect people to email me the tabs I request?

No. If you put your email address in your post I will erase it. People will not send you emails. If they tab your song they will post it in your thread or submit it to the GTU Tablature Database. There is an option that will enable emails to be sent to you whenever a reply is made in your topic. If you cannot be bothered to check on a regular basis if someone has replied to your topic, please check this option to ensure the people who donate their time to tab your song get the satisfaction of a thank you.

What if I want to be silly?

Take it to the Discussion Forum.

You mean this forum will actually have a purpose now?

Yeah, that's the idea.

You have a lot of rules, Major. You're pretty strict.

No, I'm just responding to the requests of GTUers who want to see this forum clean and useful. If you don't want to follow the rules you don't have to post here. You can come be silly with me in the Discussion Forum. This is Tab Requests, and that's how we roll.

Please follow the rules and have fun,

The Major

Well done. I try to help as much as possible...but sometimes it gets frustrating when someone doesnt even take the time to look on this site (imagine that....looking on a tab site???) before requesting something.

Looks as if your new rules should make things a bit smoother. biggrin.gif

man good idea now if people would read the rules like they dont in Guitar Q & A and we get a ton of stupid whos the greatest guitarist polls drives people bonkers. I wish i had the time to write out tabs by ear but i dont have the patience to do it, however I am tabbing out Thank You by Led Zeppelin at the moment. i dont know when it will be done but hopefully late January at the latest or whenever i get my laptop back from the shop

Nice job tightening it up, Major. I'd like to add this for new members (if they bother to read this pinned topic)....

If you post a request, come back and check on it once in a while. There isn't some room full of tab-masters sitting somewhere just waiting for a request to post so they can jump right on it and whip off a tap in like two seconds and post it right back. I don't know how many times I've done some tab for some tune I don't even particulary care for and post it and then the person never even comes back. As far as I'm concerned, I wasted a bunch of time trying to help someone for nothing. So I rarely bother to help someone with like a post-count of 1, or a member since 2002 and a post-count of 3 or something. I got better things to do than tab some tune for cyber-space. And a lot of guys here have the same feeling. Every request isn't gonna get answered. Some obscure tune nobody knows, or whatever. I generally anymore only bother to help somebody if it's in one of the genres I'm into, or pretty easy for me to help with anyway. Whatever, if you post a request, come back and check on it. And it doesn't hurt to add another post to your topic when you do check so that: a] It'll move back to the top again and be easier to be seen; and b] Anyone who might look at the request knows it won't be a waste of their time if they decide to help. It won't guarantee you'll get help, but it will definately make it a little more likely.

Wise words. Just one little addition: don't overdo it; it gets really annoying when someone bumps their request every five minutes for a day.

Good job, Major.

What can I say? I'm a giver!

I'm still busy in here everyday though. I lock at least one topic per day and edit the title of at least two.

But overall, good work team!

Very true. Just bump it every once in awhile to keep it on the front page a couple of times. Bumping it too many times can actually defeat its own purpose. Not many guys have time to open and read every topic even when it's one they possibly can and would help with. If someone sees a topic and it has five or ten responses on it already, one could easily (and logically) think the help has already been given since it has so many posts to the topic. Use a bit of judgement.

One other thing I'd like to add....

I know it may seem petty to some...but a simple "thank you" when someone takes time to tab a song for you wouldn't be a bad thing. You've posted once stating that you "gotta have this song sooooo bad to play for this girl...", etc. So how about a second post with a "thanks...that helped a lot"

May not seem like much...but common courtesy goes a long way.

no-one saying thank you is the reason i now only do tabs for members i know or someone who actively engages in a conversation with me in the thread so i know it will be appreciated.

I know what you mean, Voodoo. I'll do one, or say I will. And the person will like PM or e-mail me for a week..."Is it done? Is it done yet? Then I'll send it or post it and not a thanks or anything. Usually I do get one though, and I appreciate it.

Damn, I went to post a couple of tabs I already had for someone and Six already had 'em locked up! Like that girl (I assume) that wanted Eva Cassidy tabs in that "I'll tab Anything Topic" that was just put up yesterday. I went to post and it was locked before I could finish my post. I understand watching and then locking something like that, but that one got locked in less than one day. laugh.gif Sometimes it's a little too tight in here! But I guess it's better than too loose.

Whoops! Sorry, Daddy-o. If I do that to you again just drop me a PM and I'll open it back up. I lock topics for a number of reason: no song name or band name in topic subject, offtopic, or I'm tired and pissy.

If he doesn't, I might.. depending on just how silly. biggrin.gif

As for what dadfad was talking about... listen to him! I've tabbed several things for people who never seem to come back. Like dadfad said, you take the time to tab something you don't particularly care for - and will probably never play yourself - and nothing... not even simple *ok, got it*.

I've also tabbed other things and had a lot of feedback from people - one guy even recorded a song for me to listen to how well I taught it! Feedback is good.

This is a community... it's about give and take. We're happy to help as long as we know we're not wasting our time.

No problem, Major. It's a lot better the way it is than full of stupid polls and topics that you don't know w/t/f it is until you open it. I think you've done a great job here.
