Hey, i was wondering if anyone had some advice for me, This is the first time restringing my 6 string acoustic, the problem that i have is that the pegs in the bridge wont come out, the examples ive seen have shown the it is fairly easy to take out but mine are stuck? Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated so i dont bust the peg.

the guitar is a 6 string acoustic, nothing fancy

Thanks in advance

Happens often, when strings are tuned to pitch the ball ends wedge at the bridge pins with a fair amount of force. try pushing the string back into the bridge holes before attempting to pull out the pins(I'm assuming the strings are fully slacked off before you try?).The round tops of the bridge pins can be difficult to grab with bare fingers, a string winder normally has a facility to lever up the bridge pins or I've found a metal spoon works well enough. Just don't use anything sharp as you're bound to cause some injury to your instrument.

You should be able to reach inside the guitar, through the sound hole (providing it's big enough) and feel the ends of the pegs. Push them up at the same time as pulling.

If you have a restringing tool (I call them dwarf's football rattles, I wouldn't know if they have a proper name), you know, the peg winder thing, they usually have a slot in them that you can push against the peg head and it makes it easier to lever out.

If it comes down to it you can even use pliers, but I'd be very careful doing that as you could damage the peg or even worse, your guitar.

this happened to me a while ago, but i never got the pin out in one piece, the damn thing snapped off so i had to poke it out from inside, but then i had to buy another bridge pin, which obviously wasn't exactly the same size as the others, so it stuck out more, which i found annoying, so in the end i had to buy all 6 new bridge pins. so don't break any. it's a pain in the arse.

As was mentioned, most string winders have a little slot in the bottom for pulling pins. (I used to have a table-fork with a cut out tine for pulling bridge-pins that worked well before they made string-winders.) And you can push them out from inside (or tap them out). A Bic Lighter or a spoon usually works well.

Thanks alot for the advice, im gonna go pick up a string winder, i wasnt going through the soundhole because i was doing one string at a time, I read that you can throw off the truss rod if you unstring them all at one time?

Thanks everyone for your help

Wait, so those aren't meant for mini sword fights at the dinner table? I've been going at this all wrong.
