I would really like to learn the art of making guitars. I was hoping someone out there could reccommend a site that lists a bunch of luthier schools in pretty much colorado, or wyoming. Or if possible, if you are familiar with one in that vincinity, it would be much appreciated thank you.

There are lots of luthier schools in the states.I wouldnt know if there are any in your area though. You could try going to the lmi website http://www.lmii.com as they have a fair few schools listed and maybe there will be one near you.It might be though that you have to up and move for a while in order to do it.It depends how much you want it at the end of the day.

I learnt at a college in London and you wouldnt earn much working for me i can tell you.Thats half the trouble with the luthier business. Many just dont want to teach you incase you become competition one day and the ones that are willing to help you either cant afford to pay you anything or they dont have the space for you in the work shop.Dispite what alot of people think its a labour of love really. You dont earn millions from it.Not from hand makeing them anyway and thats if you are one of the lucky few that makes it solely as a builder. Most do mainly repairs. You can do ok from it but you are never really likely to become rich from it.But it depends what you want.Do you want a job that pays great but you dread going in every day or do you want a job that you actually enjoy and going to work is most of the time quite plesant.Me ive had the tme of my life where ive had lot of money and lived it a bit.I now have my own place and have a few quid in the bank. Not alot but i dont struggle.Im pretty much happy with the simple things in life.So doing a bit of guitar work and some french polishing does me ok.
