The girlfriend just bought a few CHEAP guitars on eBay...
I was wondering, they are clearly classical guitars, but they came with some (cheap) metal strings. They are almost not playable... when we strung them with the metal strings, there is a buzzing noise coming from the bridge.
I am trying to convince her that it is a good idea to put nylon strings on them and they would sound so much better, but she wants to get some light metal strings on one of them.
Would this be bad for the neck at all? Considering first off that they are cheapies... Would it put more tension on the neck to put metal strings on rather than nylon strings?

Yes putting steel strings on a classical guitar will eventually warp the neck. Classical guitars do not have truss rods (that I know of), and steel strings put more tension on the neck than they are designed for. If you really don't care about the guitar because it's cheap then you can get away with it for a while, but be prepared to damage the neck, or worse yet, have it snap in two.
