First post on here so a big 'Hi' to everyone. Anyway......

I'm looking to buy a new guitar and have my eye on a Taylor 310. I'm only planning on playing it unplugged but I've got a nagging doubt in my mind that at some point in the distant future I may want a guitar that I can plug in so I've also been thinking about the Taylor 310CE. My question is, will both guitars sound the same unplugged or will the basic 310 model sound better as it doesn't have a cutaway?

If the basic model sounds better unplugged then that's the one for me. If they both sound the same then I've got another couple of weeks of saving to do.

Any info would be much appreciated.

yeah, they're gonna sound the same. your best bet is to go into a guitar store and check them out. but for the most part, when taylor has a guitar series, take the 400....

the 410 and 410 ce sound the same
412 ce
414 414 ce same
415 415 ce same
454
455 455ce same

I recommend trying the 300 series. Give the 314 a try.

A cutaway is meant to take some of the natural acoustic value away from the instrument. Or so I've heard

it's not "meant" to take the acoustic sound away, it's meant to be able to reach the higher frets, but as a consiquence, the acoustic looses some of its "sound value."

Took the plunge and ordered a 310CE which just arrived today. All i can say is Wow. The difference between it and my old Fender acoustic is unbelievable and it really is a joy to play. Hopefully someday I'll be able to do it justice with my playing.

Hey nice choice. Does it have the expression system in it? I have a 314 but it's not a ce model. I'm always looking to upgrade though.

Yeah it's got the expression system. At the moment I only intend to play it unplugged but as I'm hoping this guitar will last me for many many years to come I thought I'd spend that little bit extra in case I ever decide to plug it in at some point in the future.

I still can't believe how much easier it is to play than my old guitar. Well worth the debt I've wracked up on my credit card to pay for it. rolleyes.gif

Exactly - which means it more than likely will sound different.

I'd very much doubt it will be anything huge though, I've no experience with Taylors.

i own a 310 and wouldn't trade it for a 310CE.... way better unplugged... and honestly unless you gig on a regular basis there's no need for an electric addition.
