Takamine, Dean, Yamaha, Ibanez, and Washburn. Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Go to your nearest guitar store and check all the guitars within your price range. Hope this helped.

Yes. And Polish equivalent of the word "yes" is "tak".... if you know what I mean. biggrin.gif

I have an alvarez straight out of the 70's, if you can get your hands on an old guitar they are the best in my oppinion.

Get a Taylor or Martin, if you can afford one that is.

Otherwise, Fender acoustics aren't too bad, but the best acoustic I've played, besides a Taylor or Martin, was a Takamine.

Stay away from Epiphones, they are not all that great.

Hi

I played bass as a teenager but gave up after a few years (circumstances etc ). My Dad's always had an acoustic / electric guitar (Yamaha) but i found it a little "stiff" if you see what i mean.

Anyway i bought a Squier Affinity Strat at Christmas and its all flooding back to me but i've found i'm trying to play acoustic tracks with the electric............. not good

This brings me to a choice of various acoustics that i now *have* to purchase

Can anyone recommend me a good acoustic for around £300 ($500 USD). I've been looking and trying out a few but the one that stands out to me is the Taylor Baby G. It's deep and rich and feels really easy to play

Am i just a dum newbie or is that a good choice?

TIA

Pete

For under $500, I know Alvarez makes a good acoustic, Yamaha has a few decent ones for around that price ( some of the cheaper Yamaha's aren't so nice, so don't get turned off by them ) and look at Washburn.

All else fails, you have E-bay.

Washburn are the greatest "cheap" guitar makers...you could buy a really nice one for $300 -$500 ... But the best guitar makers in the world are Breedlove...(of course, their guitars can be anywhere from $2000 to $20 thousand...)

Hey, thanks for that guys wink.gif

Okay, so i'll take a look at some Washburns. To be fair, i did take a look at a 3/4 Dreadnought at the same time as the Taylor Baby. At the time i thought the Taylor had the edge biggrin.gif

The Washburn didnt sound as rich but maybe i wasnt comparing like for like, as the Washburn 3/4 was nearly $100 USD cheaper.

Thanks for the info. if you can recommend any of the Washburns then please let me know

An Epiphone acoustic is in my, and in most peoples opinion much better than a Fender acoustic... Personal thing I'm sure, but I'd disagree there.

Can't go wrong with a Yamaha...

...definitely check out Taylor, if you have the $...also have a look (listen) at some used guitars...if you can't get a Taylor--whatever you buy consider having the neck "bolted" into place by a reputable luthier.
