I need to get a new guitar and my friend was telling me about those Takamine guitars from the 70s that were exact copies of Martin D18s and D28s. He said that he played one and it sounded just as good as any Martin he'd ever played. So I'm just wondering if anybody has one of these or knows anything about them.

Both companies make a great guitar, so it probably sounds ok.

Takamine is great in general, don't be afraid to buy a product of their's just because it's not Martin. They're sometimes better, especially if you're looking for an acoustic electric.

I for one question Martin products that they have made these days as being extremely good. I would recommend both guitar makes though from the early days, Takamines have always been pretty nice guitars. I would not mind getting a Takamine of my own some day unless I can get my own Martin import fixed and up to par cause its got some issues

As an owner of a Takamine myself, and having used a few different ones, I can safely say they seem to be generally good acoustics. I'd say it's a safe bet that a Takamine copy of a Martin is going to be pretty good.
