I've written some music, and I wanted a haunting quality to it. Since the only guitar I had with a tailpiece bridge is broken, I rewrote the music for acoustic. I can't fret anything, but by picking the strings above the nut, I can get the sound I'm looking for.

I just want to know if that will cause my strings to break or be weakened. I'm not plucking them hard, just enough to get the sound. I don't think it's too much a problem, but I just want to make sure.

I just wanted to check. Someone I know used to do that all the time, and his strings broke more often then not. My guess is he did it too hard.

That might be why.

I just have to wipe the strings down each time, which I usually do anyway.
