So I'm gigging pretty regularly now on acoustic, and was fed the h#ll up with volume limitations on mics, so I caved in and bought a pickup. I got me the Dean Markley Grand. I saw humbucker and thought "Yeah!! VOLUME!!!" Well I got my volume, alright! Thing CRANKS!! and no feedback(unless my sound guy jacks my gain, but I'm breaking him of that habit). But the real nice thing? The warmth. It manages to stay pretty true to my guitar's sound, but it adds this amazing low end with such a creamy goodness...Ahhhhh. Good bass without overwhelming the sweet mids and sparkly highs. I paid $60 US at my local shop, and it was the best decision I've made for a long time. No dials to mess with, just put her in the soundhole, plug in and enjoy. And since it's a pickup in the classic sense, I can adjust my sound myself by angling it closer to either the lows or highs as I choose. Not as nice as my guitarist's factory pickup, but he also paid dearly for that. I would say the Dean pickup gives me about 85% of his tone for like 8% of the cost. Nice steal. Now obviously I'd like to have an on-board setup, but for someone looking for an alternative to mics and electric-acoustics, this is one h#ll of pickup. They also make a Gold series that I have yet to see or hear, but it's a step up from mine, so I can imagine it's one sweet little thing. While I like how the cord stays out of my way, it isn't the greatest in the world. It needs to be longer and the plug looks a little...low-end? But at the end of the day, I'm more than satisfied and would recommend it to anyone looking to play live acoustic(which I'm doing now! laugh.gif ). In all seriousness-this thing kicks @ss. Thank you for your time. tongue.gif

I've been here since 11/06/01 and I've never been a GTUer of the month. It's 08. I rock.
