I went to my music shop and asked if they sell a cable that would connect my Electro Acoustic to my sound card so I could record. He said there is no such thing and the only choice I had was to buy some "Boss" thing that cost like £250 sad.gif

Does anyone know where to get a cable from that runs from my guitar straight into my PC? ...... I think the guy in that shop was just trying to trick me into spending a lot of money mad.gif But I dont know for sure as I dont know anyone who records this way...

Dont I just need something like this?

Sorry if this belongs in Record Discussion tongue.gif

Your guitar shop is talking bull######. It depends on your acoustic, you will more than likely need an amp before you put it into the PC - run from your amp's headphone out socket into the computers mic' input, or better still the "line in" socket. Might take a bit of fiddeling to get the sound nice...

Also, keep in mind that some digital pedals will also work as an amp (multi FX and the likes), and will allow you to go straight into the computer too.

I bought a Line6 GuitarPort and that works perfectly. Got a whole bunch of other bells and whistles on it aswell.

It partly depends on the guitar. I have a Takamine which therefor has a preamp, so it's all good for me.

Basically, all you need is an adapter, like in the picture. There's no need for extra leads or anything, you don't need a midi pick up to convert the signals or anything silly like that. You can plug your guitar straight into your computer. The sound quality may not be great and you're licking to get some background hiss, but it works quite well.

All you need is the adapter, then plug it into your line-in. If you don't have a pre-amp or anything there should be some kind of amplification software that'll do that once its on your PC. Alternatively just get a cheap microphone. Unplugged sounds so much better anyway smile.gif

Yup. All you need is a regular guitar cable +

That's all I use when recording.
