I was wondering who you guy's draw upon for your inspiration ?

I've been listening to a lot of Nuno Bettencourt recently and a local English acoustic guitarist who isnt well known but i really like the style. I wouldnt mind listening to a few acoustic guitarists just to hear the different styles, hoping that it may make me create a few ideas. blink.gif

So guy's who do you look to and listen to for new ideas / inspiration ?

i like to go to local people playing in the bars and coffee shops to see and hear what they're doing and get ideas. i think i'm just a visual learner, i don't have the patience to listen to a cd, sit down and figure it out or print out the tabs and work on it.

I've been inspired a lot by Lindsey Buckingham who I learned alot from. My instructor Jason Riley is really great, the best guitarist I've ever seen and has really advanced acoustic skill. Probably the best ever is a tie between The Chet Atkins and The Paco De Lucia (the inclusion of "the" really emphasises their greatness). Paco is without a doubt the greatest player in the world and Chet is the greatest player ever, so listening to them I really learn a lot from them. Jimmy Page and Leo Kottke have a lot of cool stuff too.

Jimmy Page. Ya, he's known for his electric the most, but he absolutely ROCKS on acoustic. Ya, he's my favorite too. smile.gif

John Hurt
Chet Atkins
Leo Kottke

were dudes that inspired me most so far.

Now I'm under a huge influence of Steve Hancoff

I also want to learn Joe Pass style acoustic chord melody arranging.

Probably John Jackson, Paul Geremia and Robert Pete Williams. On slide-guitar Fred McDowell, Paul Geremia and Johnny Shines.

"Well, there's 14,852 guitar pickers in Nashville........"John Sebastian.

Hell everybody that I've ever heard play has been an inspiration to me. It goes back to when I was a pup, Whoever was playing on the radio, some early LP's of Bo Diddly and Chuck Berry, the cats on TV, Elvis, the Everly Brothers, ole Rick Nelson, if they had a guitar, and some attitude, they were alright by me, and that's what I wanted to be.

It's still going on. I can be browsing in a guitar shop and somebody can be playing a lick, it don't matter who, I'll like it, seems everyone has a lick.

I've said it on here before, but Martin Simpson knocks me on my arse. Incidentally, he was at Hitchin Folk Club last night again, and he amazes me. He holds a room spellbound for as long as he's playing, utterly captivating. His playing is so flawless, his knowledge of Traditional English music, and American music is incredible.

I bought the Washburn N2 and N4 Nuno signature models (factory one first, signature two years later).. I loved that mans work.

Now I listen to a lot of Tommy Emmanuel and Doyle Dykes. Tommy's music in particular speaks to me in a really intimate way.. it's the kind of music I would write (if I were able to write music rather than just playing it).
