I don't really have goals according the season of the year, but just guitar in general.

Up until a few months ago, I never really learnt songs properly through & through. My goal now being to do the complete thing (So far, so good).

Next song?

Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah...

The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop at late or early hour
Now is the only time you own
Live, love, toil with a will
Place no faith in time
For the clock may soon be still

I have a whole briefcase full of stuff that I can half ass, but right now I'm working on the Chet Atkins version of Vincent.

I do want to be able to nail that song, it's very nice.

I am like some of you, in that I can play parts of a lot of songs, but nothing all the way through very well. My goal is to complete a few of these songs.

Classical Gas
Tears In Heaven
Windy and Warm

Do you still have enough years left in you to do that, John? laugh.gif

I don't know, one thing I'm worried about is do I have enough living brain cells left to remember a tune all the way through.

It's been a good life. biggrin.gif

I want to record something, haven't had much time recently. Some originals I'm thinking of.

I want to learn more harmony.

That's what matters.

Just make sure you get that song down in time!

Im trying to make a real effort to play quality rack-harmonica as I play guitar. I mean, I do okay, but I tend to simplify one or the other as I play them together, either the guitar-work or the harmonica-work (I used to do the same thing while singing but pretty much have that under control now) (same old crappy voice, but at least I no longer noticeably cut down on the complexity of my guitar-work when I sing). I listen to true solo-guitarist "rack-masters" like John Hammond Jr. or (especially) Paul Geremia (probably THE best at it) and although I know I'll never reach his level, I want to do a lot better than I do now.

Yes, I am. Just simple well-placed rhythmic chugs and warbles even will add a lot to a solo-guitar performance, but I'm aiming for something more like this or this. (Which are clips of live solo guitar-rack performances.) I'm a pretty fair harmonica player, hand-held, and even when using a neck-rack (I'd done so in an electric bluesband for years), but the complexity of good fingerstyle blues makes much harp-work beyond just rhythms and a few little warbles or trills interjected here and there pretty elusive to me. So far.

I can play the tune on a guitar. I can do the harp separately easy enough. Doing them together simultaneously is the hard part! laugh.gif

And learning beginning harmonica is a much greater strain on the ears of the... er... non-combatants! It drove my wife crazy. And it's pretty obnoxiously loud. I'd go hide up in the attic to practice. I finally bought a neck-rack so I could practice in the car while driving (I got a lot of stares from other drivers!), but it eventually came together.

I'm working my way through Devendra Banhart's 'Rejoicing in the hands' album, and i'm going to do a lot of work on fingerpicking and country blues.

I want to learn some real slide guitar. I can play more slide than most people, but I really want to learn it.

Another goal is to be able to play slide with a full bottle of some sort. It wouldnt really work for me at 14 to play with a beer bottle, but there's enough sodas in glass bottles it shouldnt be problem.

And dadfad, from what you mentioned I now want to learn how to play harmonica. Some good blues harp. Id really love to be able to do that.
