I've always found Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana to be depressing. The pupkins are sometimes mellow too.

Most tracks off of Every Good Boy Deserves Favour (The Moody Blues), especially the ending two, 8. You can Never go Home, and 9. My Song. Listen to them back to back.

Also, Ringo Starr - Photograph. That's one hell of a sad song.
