Hey Folks,

I am looking for some wisdom here. I have an Ibanex, cut away with starburts orange color. I love the thing, but it has a fatal defect and has been sent back to the mfg.

Here's the deal, I went to the dealer and asked if they minded if I traded up. My next step up is like a Taylor 210e. At 739$. I could afford more, I just don't want to. This cost, along with my trade would make for a nice swap. Cost being irrelvant, am I buying an imatation taylor at a poor mans price point?

No doubt it sounds better than the highest end Ibanez they have (it's the one I bought) but I didn't want to feel like I was being sold a bill of goods either.

What are the thoughts of those in this hobby much longer than I? I have only been playing about 2 years.

Yeah I agree, Anything below the 300 series isn't worth it. For one the nut width on taylors are 1 3/4" starting at the 300 series, where it is smaller 1 11/16" if I am not mistaken on the 200 and 100 series. For someone with big hands like myself, that extra 1/16" of and inch is crucial. Like most guitar manufacturers, there are good guitars if you are willing to pay the price, then there are the cheap guitars that are just used to entice those who don't want to pay for the better guitars and thus we have the 200 and 100 series.

I say get the Taylor. I owned a 2001 300 series (which I recently sold) made with Sapele wood. The wood they used at the time for the 300s. Now the 300s are made with Mahogany and the 200s are made of Sapele. So I say you are getting a better tonewood for a even better price. And if you've seen any of the new T5 Taylors which is their version of an electric guitar they too (with the exception of the top wood) are made of Sapele. So I say GO FOR IT!

I'm no expert on guitars but earlier this year I decided to get rid of my old Fender acoustic and splash out on a Taylor 310CE (which I'm still paying for) and I haven't looked back. It's so much easier to play and I think I've improved as a player because of it. I basically made the decision that I could spend money on a mid priced guitar only to want to cange it in a few years time or I could spend that bit extra on a guitar that would hopefully last me a lifetime.

i was fiddling around with a taylor at Sam Ash the other day didnt check what model , but man it felt and sounded great, a huge upgrade from my celebrity (ovation).

it was goin for $399. So it was probably a 200 series.

How much do Taylor 300+ series cost?

i don't think it was a 200 series, i think they cost more than that

300 series sell for around $1200 (or at least i got mine for that) and the price varies on what you get with it (body style, cutaway and electronics, special model, etc.)

the price just gets higher and higher for the upper end models (presentation series taylors are like $14,000)

To me, the 100 and 200 series are not that great sounding or looking (neither is the 314 I currently own honestly... look wise). If you want a low end Taylor, then get a Big Baby Taylor. That is THE best sounding guitar for under $500 and is very raw looking but tastefully raw. The 100 and 200 series aren't worth it to me. ~N8
