hi everyone,
Have you ever reached a point in your playing when you dont want to play anymore.
Well i never thought that i would, but its finally happened to me, havent picked
up a guitar in days, and it aint bothering me at all.
Everyday for three years i have lived and breathed guitar, but at the moment
i dont care it it hangs on for ever.
Just wondering if this has ever happened to anyone else on here.

haha, yeah, i love the guitar as much as ever, but it will be my second instrument that i play for fun and enjoyment. in all honesty, i don't have enough time in my life at the moment to devote much time to it and i don't play much at all. i have accepted the fact that i will never be as good as i could possibly be because of this, but hey, it's for sheer enjoyment, as long as i have fun whenever i pick it up and play it, the time i spent learning it will have been put to good use. for the past year, i have probably spent on average, at the most, two hours a week playing it (mind you, i go for weeks without so much as to take it out of it's case, but then get into it for a week and then stop again).
so yeah, for you, it might just be a phase, but for me, it's a pretty permanant thing, there is truth in the saying that you can only truly excel at one instrument (you can do more than that obviously, and well, but to reach true potential in any given instrument, you've got to devote yourself to it, and sad to say, the guitar isn't that instrument for me).
don't worry about it, as long as you're happy with it, and still have fun, the guitar will always be there for you

Probably happens to everyone at some point. we all have days when we just can't be bothered.
For most of us, guitar is something done for the enjoyment, so there's no point in forcing yourself to play just for the sake of it........ but it probably won't be long before you're desperate to pick the thing up again. Go listen to some music, try getting into some new artists, maybe that'll give you the 'inspiration' you need.

I'm having that kind of phase at the moment. I haven't played for about two weeks.
I do pick it up and play a few scales for 10mins here and there maybe, but not played solid or learned any new songs, theory or anything.
Work has wound me up, I just don't want to do anything for a few weeks.
I still listen to stuff though. Think about what they're playing as I'm listening...
This seems to be a common thing, feeling guilty if you love something, and don't spend every free minute doing whatever it is.
It's mentioned on here quite alot, not playing. Most people seem to think it does you good, as long as it's not months!
I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's suprising sometimes what has sunk in when you go back to playing, even if you weren't thinking about it.
Have some time off from playing. It's not important. Just don't stop entirely.

Yes, almost everyone has those periods. You'll probably come back soon, and when you do you'll feel like you've started at a new "plateau" sort of. You might be slightly off at first, but it'll rapidly improve. What you've learned already will be sort of a new solidified base from which you start on again fresh. (Does that make any sense at all?

The exact opposite is happening to me at the moment.
I haven’t been able to play for about three weeks & it’s killing me!
Two off days coming up, so I will be spending my time wisely…

The clock of life is wound but once
And no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop at late or early hour
Now is the only time you own
Live, love, toil with a will
Place no faith in time
For the clock may soon be still

I hit something like that a while back. I don't want to say now I'm addicted to playing, but that's all I really want to do. I kept playing but not as much and just took a bit of a break, instead of 6 or so hours a day, I went back to 2. After about a week I found I was fine again. You have to give yourself a break every now and then. That way you can clear your head and get a start somewhere else.
