Im curious how different individual guitars are from within the same model.

let me clarify with an example.

if lets say I bought a taylor 610 e, (i dont know if thats a real model, but just as an example) and a friend bought a taylor 610 e. How much of a difference in quality, tone, whatever, anything would there be between each of our guitars?

Im sure it depends heavily on waht model it is and what company it is. But generally have you guys really felt guitars have a considerable amount of individuality along the same model?

thanks in advance, this can really help me for future purchases.

Yes, there are differences. Usually the more expensive the guitar is, the less difference and more consistancy there is within the same model. Not always, but generally speaking.

The more expensive the model the less differences. Big companies use machine lines, so there shouldn't be many differences. Sure it may be a worse piece of wood or there's some machine error, etc. It shouldn't happen with Taylors, I suppose they have good quality control.

But I like to check before buying.

So if i tried out a model that I liked at my local guitar store, and either bought the same model from the net or had another one (of the same model) ordered and shipped from a different store. I shouldnt expect the same quality?

Probably. But I'd try getting the music store to match in internet price. I've done it twice and they usually so okay.

My guitar teacher and mentor told me that when he bought a taylor 714ce, he told them to bring up every guitar they had in that model. He played every single one of those guitars and found one that had a little better noticable sound. SO that is the one he took home with him. Whenever people would play his taylor, they would say that is one of the best sounding taylor's they had ever heard. So there is a difference, it could be a variety of things. It could be that the wood on that guitar ( even though all the others have the same wood) has a bit better quality, it could be that the person running the machines building it had a really good day or something.

I wouldn't reccomend buying a guitar on the net to start with, based on personal experience. I did what I think you are considering doing. I went to the local shop, found a guitar I like, played it and it sounded good. Going on a little rabbit trail here, the sound really wasn't that good, but I was too ignorant in my knowledge of guitars to know. Well anyway, so I played this one, and I found the same one on music123.com for about $100 cheaper. So I went that route and got it in the mail. I was still ignorant at the time, and long story short, the guitar was not good sounding at all. It was worse than the one at the store. And I was too stupid to return it. The pickup didn't even work. But I couldn't test it because I nor anyone I know have an amp. I then bought an amp and found out it didn't work. SO I had to get it fixed to sell it, and buy myself a good quality guitar, a taylor 514ce.

The whole situation was a mess, and I will warn you now that I think it is safer to just deal with a local dealer. If something goes awry, it is a pain in the butt to get fixed.

hope this helps.

there should be little differences among guitars of the same model

depending on the type of wood and method of building guitars, there may be more or less small differences

like i said in your other post, i wouldn't buy a guitar online because you don't know what might happen after you buy it and before you get it

About at what price range would the differences between the same models be significantly few? $500-$700? $700-$1000? $2000?

As you near a thousand I'd say any differences would likely be more of a difference in factory or store set-up than in manufacturing. But the maker is a factor too. For example Martin which has a good reputation for quality, especially in their upper-end models. I checked out several of the same in one of their less expensive models and found a noticeable difference in them.

Of course, it's all in the ear of the beholder. Someone with a few years of playing and guitar appreciation under his belt will be able to detect subtle differences. On the other hand, a beginner or beginning intermediate player probably wouldn't notice much difference between same model guitars.
