Hey all,
I've been shopping around for a guitar for a while but am having problems chosing an apporopriate guitar. At Guitar Center the sales clerk basically told me that fender makes guitars with extremely poor sound quality for my budget ($299 and under). He reccomended two Yamaha's and a black Ibanez acoustic/electric. I believe that this is the Ibanez: http://www.musicians.../519468/c_lv=1/
I do not know what the link for the two yamaha's are. I also went to this discount guitar store where this guy tried to sell me an Art and Lutherie. He said that they give out a lot better tone than the Yamaha because he says the Yamaha's rely on the laquer (sp?) to achieve the tone. Apperently these A&L guitars are handmade an good for beginners.

Frankly, I just want the best bang for my buck @ $299 or lower. Somewhere down the road I will invest in a better guitar once I am sure that I will pursue the hobby.

At $299 as your limit, you shouldn't expect getting an overly excellent guitar. Well, even if you had yourself $500 I wouldn't suggest investing in that expesnive of a guitar when you're just a beginner. The more expensive a guitar is, the easier it is to play, normally. At the price you've set yourself, you're in the range to go out and buy any decent starter guitar that you want. My first guitar was an Alpine Acoustic guitar, it's not exaclty wonderful, but it was perfect to learn on.
The A&L guitars, from what I've heard, are indeed good guitars for beginners to pick up. My only question is, when you asked about the guitars, did you mention you were a beginner? If so, then the guitars that were suggested to you should be good if the guys knew what they were talking about.
P.S.
From my experience, don't get an acoustic guitar made by Fender. It's nothing against the company and their electric guitars are awsome, but I've found their acoustics aren't nearly close to some of the best out there. Just my opinion though.
