Hello everyone! First post here, and Im not even sure if it's in the right spot, but I think it is. tongue.gif

Ive been here for about 3 months or so on the forums, but Ive been using the site for tabs for over 4 years. Since Ive been playing guitar for about 4 years, I have decent experience with the electric and acoustic and know which ones are pretty good.

But I am new to the acoustic-electric guitars. I would really like one, but I cant seem to choose since there are so many. What would be a good one to start out with? Ive been thinking about an Ovation, but Im not too sure about it.

And I wouldnt mind a cheaper one, but a decent one. I only make minimum wage cause I work at McDonalds and they dont pay much. I also work there after school so I dont work that many hours. So anything cheap would be nice, as long as its decent. smile.gif

Thanks for the help. yesani.gif

I totally agree.

Alvarez AJ-60... About $450 US if you shop around.

And welcome to GTU.

You could have a look at Tanglewood guitars. A couple of friends I helped with uying their first guitars ended up with Tanglewoods. I was very impressed with the quality for the price.

Recently I've been digging Ovations; some of them are not so great, but some are spectacular for the price you pay. I acquired a Balladeer, used, for maybe half of what it sounded like it was worth; it's magnificent both unplugged and plugged in, once you get over the fact that it looks as though you could use it to paddle a canoe if you lost your oar.

Tacoma makes a nice electro-acoustic, too.

What do you guys think of the Johnson Acoustic-Electric Clarity guitar? It seem pretty good and reviews for it are very positive.

Between the two I'd probably go with the Alvarez. (That Ovation bowl-back really can be a pain in the ass. It won't rest very comfortably on your lap and not much better even with a strap. For me anyway.)

I own an Aria, and soulcracker is absolutely right. It sounds great, either plugged or unplugged, plays very smoothly, and is very light and comfortable to either sit or stand with.

Not too many controls (only a volume and tone control), but how many do you need?

The model I have ranges from £180 to £250.

The ovation sounds nice, I played my friend's, but I dont like how it sits on your lap. The plastic back is just not working out for me, the guitar keeps sliding.

Get a Taylor. Better neck, better electronics.
