What are you looking to spend?
Yes, it really depends on what you consider "too expensive." In my opinion, Gibsons are best. Others might say Martin or Taylor (I have all three and prefer my Gibsons). A Gibson acoustic starts at about $1100 and goes up from there. There are also good more moderately priced brands like Alvarez, Takamine, Ibanez, etc. In moderate-brands it's always best to get one of their higher-priced models if you can... Maybe in the $450- $500 or so and up range.
Anyway, it depends on what you want to spend, and also what you want to play with it.

If it were me, I'd buy an Alvarez. I think they are really good for the money. 2 of my friends have them and I want one myself. The RD8 is around 230$ but when I first played it I guessed around 600-800$.
I have an AJ60 Alvarez and it's been a great guitar for the money. Extremely nice looking too.

ya, $600-800 is probably what i'm looking at, $1100 seems a little pricey. what does a Martin or Taylor run at, about the same? and what about Fender, are they any good?
I have two Fender Acoustics. One is cheap and the other is their top of the line. I can not really tell the difference between them in sound quality. I believe that the majority of their acoustics would be in your price range.

For acoustics i've always liked Gibson, Hohner and Tanglewood (i have this one) but its down to personal perference. I like the sound of the Ovation's as well but find them way to light in the body for my liking...

martins and taylors at that price aint worth it, fenders are horrible acoustics imo.
look at takamines and higher end yamahas.

I have a Taylor, and i love it. I spent a tad bit over 700 dollars for it. It boats a rich tone that isnt too bright. I think the Taylor 200 series is a good Acousitc for you.
I would have to agree with the fact that Fenders are horrible acoustics. I dont believe that they are anywhere close to a Taylor or a Martin.
Look at Martin, Taylor, and Epiphone. All three are great guitars

I have a Takamine 340SC Nashville Series, and I love it. I had an Epiphone, but I did not like it can't remember which model. It was about middle of the road if you know what I mean. I had a G-Series Takamine between the 340sc and the epi, but I did not care for it as well. It is their middle as well. I'm very pleased with the high end Takamine.
