I can not stand country music and I live right in the middle of it in a small town in Texas. If it wasn't for CDs and satellite radio I would be in a nut house by now. All that is on radio is 1960s and 70s country. I also would not classify Lynyrd Skynyrd as country to me that are classic rock and roll who happen to be from the south

Wildwood Flower-Carter Family
although I don't know if that is bluegrass or country, but it's a really nice tune.

all of you that dont like country music i think you should listen to some Kieth Urban, County music guitar god
W00t, go the Aussies and, more precisely, Queenslanders! However, I wouldn't really call Keith Urban country, more rock, its just that he has banjos and mandolins and stuff in his music.
Old-school (proper) country people would be Slim Dusty, Dwight Yoakam, Hank Williams, etc.
That being said, I don't like country music either.

"Waiting for a train" - John Sebastian (cover of an old Jimmy Rodgers song).
I haven't heard that version, but Boz Scaggs does a really good version of that song on his 1969 debut album, with Duane Allman playing dobro. You should check it out.

I absolutely agree with everything that you wrote here!
In fact as part of my Master's thesis I am exploring a theory that Country music and leisure suits cause Cancer!

You might want to explore the possibility that the link is even more specialized than that. That it is caused by polyester double-knit and country music written only after 1970. (The polyester double-knit leisure suit was invented by Jerry Rosengarten in 1970.
Un-plugged is not the same as
never-was-plugged-in-to-begin-with.
