I think of acoustic guitar and electric guitar almost as if they are two very different things that just happen to have similar ways of being played. There's a place for both. I'm much more of an acoustic-guy than electric-guy now. I doubt that I've played one of my electrics in a year or so. I used to be more electric but for the last thirty-five years or so, even if I was playing a lot of electric, I was still an acoustic-guy.
Some things need electric. It's not the same playing a dance club as a coffee-house. Each has its place. You wouldn't want to use an electric to play Robert Johnson's "Me and the Devil" and Chuck Berry's "Johnny B. Goode" just wouldn't be the same without an electric.
(But of course WE all know which one is really the best.

Un-plugged is not the same as

both called a guitar yet it is obvious they are different instruments
some songs need electric, acdc on acoustic wont live up to the hype, same as tears in heaven would be a waste on the electric
the reason why more people play electric or it seems that way is becoz the modern top 40 charts show more electric songs, therefor influencing more electric guitarists to play

Quotes about myself...
"Brad Marr, best frontman on the local scene I've seen in years"
"Entertaining, professional, did I say entertaining?"
"Their live shows are enhanced by frontman Brad Marr's explosive performance"
"Remember the Name Brad Marr, in time you won't be able to forget it"

some stuff transfers well...some doesn't
like acoustic reggae- usually pretty good
acoustic techno....um i dunno- it could be done i guess- id be interested
you know, everyone called bobby d traitor when he went from woodu guthrie ballader to leader of an obnoxious (sp?) blues band, but his electric stuff is as well muy fabuloso.
i love both, but i prefer playin acoustic myself...
....just a-pickin on a gi-tar

Acoustic guitars are the ones that allow you to cover a mistake (IMO), when I play electric (not often) I can hear each muted note, each chord that I fretted incorrectly and so on! Hey, maybe it's because I suck! Gotta go practice!
So, I guess the answer to your second question is just about all songs, although some do not sound right when played on acoustic! Example...anything by AC/DC!

Groupies... think about it.
John Mayer...yeah, but James taylor? never
The quality of willing females attracted to electric guitar (Rock type) bands is far more uh... easygoing than the intelligent thoughtful types that are attracted to acoustic musicians.
'Sides, crunching a few riffs through a full stack at max volume to a rabid crowd is a truly awesom feeling.

Just an idea... Not an actual serving suggestion.

I am personally more attracted to a guy with an acoustic and talent on it.
I think that's because I play guitar though, and I prefer playing acoustic, women who don't play think any guitar is "so hott."

Back to the old story...Acoustic versus Electric...
No doubt the an electric is better...technicaly speaking...you can get all sorts of freaky sounds out of it...and of course it atracts women...well depends on the woman...but generaly yes...but, one the other side an acoustic sound's more...ehh...sweet???
depends then on the genre of music you're in to...and of course of your personal preference....
I currently preffer acoustic...might change though...there's a thin line between acoustic and electric...

My love...talena atfield...
We all die...It's just a question of time...
So make the best of this times and don't ask why...
It's not a question but a lesson learned in time...

look back to metal bands who did acoustic songs about a girl, man did the girls flood to them after they released the acoustic song
depending on how a person plays guitars, you could make an arguement either way about which is more popular

Acoustic guitar is more difficult to play; the strings must be thicker to give good sound, and that means you have to press harder. This makes all sorts of things harder to do. Electric guitar is easier to play and make sound good. Electric also allows the use of techniques that are mostly wasted on acoustic; pick harmonics, bends, and pull-offs all will work on acoustic, but sound far better on electric. In addition, electric guitars don't feed back as easily as acoustics, so if you want to play really, really loud, electric is better for that too. Each has its place, and each has styles it lends itself to; judicious choice based on what style you want to play in is what it's all about. Remember, you're trying to make your audience feel something; what sound you choose is as important as what notes you play, or what words you sing.
