Normally I'd put this up on the Guitar Discussion of the Tabulatar Discussion and all, but this song is played on an acoustic guitar, and it seems that more people on this forum are nicer. I've seen alot of knowledgeable people post on this one, and I personally feel this might be the better place to post it. So I'm sorry in advance if this seems rude or sorta off...

The song 'So Damn Lucky' by Dave Matthews sounds pretty simple, and in essence, is. But I can't quite understand how to finger this tab correctly.

^^^^Thats the link to the guitar tab.

Please, if you know anyway to help out, I'd appriciate it. Thank you ina dvance.

I don't know the tune at all but I looked at the tab. Probably the most difficult chord to finger is that Bm aug5 (or D sus4 6th) 7X578X, which is a little awkward at first. I used RXIMPX. MXIRPX works too but the first fingering seemed easier to me. The index sort of semi-barring the 1 thru 4 strings as it holds down the 4 will mute out the 1 (hold it "sloppy") and the ring finger will also then mute out the 5th-string as it holds the 6. The next hardest thing probably was the intro's B sus4 (0999XX) hammering into the Bsus4 6th (0 11 9 11 X X). I just used my index to barre the 9th and hammered with my ring and middle (the middle and pinly work okay too). Same thing on the B7sus 4 (X099XX) hammer.

The other things didn't seem as tough as those. Anyway, hope that helps a little anyway.

Ah the many wonders of Dave Matthews. Man some of his stuff isnt easy thats for sure. If you really get into his music you will see a lot of those augmented and diminished chords which actually frequently appear in jazz tunes just as often as in rock tunes if not more. That tab isnt even done though so I wouldnt be saying its correct until you find the whole tab. You have to do a lot of half barring and stuff in Dave's tunes, unlike most tunes. Its also harder because he plays with a pick and a lot of tunes have muting between two notes so you have too pick it and mute the middle note, its a real b/tch to do, I am learning Grey Street and its similar format where you have too play like 7x07xx basically. I hate trying too mute that one note and actually play the other 3 notes that are there. Maybe my approach is wrong.

I know what you mean. To my knowledge, the whole band use to be jazz artists, until they all got together and started playing Dave's songs.

As for Grey Street, I actually found the chords to be kinda easy to get down. He used them at the intro to Too Much as well as Trippin' Billies, and in the chours to Granny. But anyway, the best way I found to do it, is to finger the low E string with your index finger. Just let it lay down a bit so that it's muting the A string. As for the G string, I figure you could use whatever you like, I personally use my middle finger.

I hope that helps, and thank you for your help, as well as everyone else who replied. happy.gif
