Well after a pretty large internet-free life Im back and im on the look out for a new guitar. Im after a cheap elec-acou but other than that my options are remaining open.

Breif: I have a house in France - I need a guitar I can take along there with me.
Cut-away? Dreadnaught? Double-neck? I dont mind. (ok, no double-necks tongue.gif)

This is something I am looking at the moment. But Ive not really done any real looking.. But it shows a basic price range but I may go a little higher.

If you really want to put a smile on my face find a low-ish quality hard case for it too

The winner gets.. a pat on the back.

Cheers

The Brownsville looks nice.. I'll see if I can play one first obviously. The house was handed down from a dead relative + its very remote - ie the nearest instrument shop is over an hours drive away.

Thanks guys, does anyone else have any ideas?

UPDATE: I went to a local store and played a Takamine and wow it seemed to meet everything I was looking for, for a good price.

ThisTakamine is the one IM currently looking at, has anyone played it? The one I played had a not-so-good preamp so Im looking forward to it. Come with a 'free' case too. Though I use the word free lightly.

That's probably a pretty nice guitar in that range. You may also want to check out the Alvarez AJ60 in a similar (actually a bit cheaper) price-range. I mention that guitar because my son bought me one for Fathers Day a few years back when he got his first "real job" and I was surprised at it's quality and playability and it has held up well for a couple of years now. That one has no electronics, but another AJ60 model does have them and comes with a cutaway if that's what you want. If you can find one you might check it out too, but I'm sure that Takamine is pretty nice too.

I have a Nashville series Takamine that I play now, but I had a G-series Takamine before like the one you are looking at. The G-series is the lower quality guitar series for Takamine, but should cover all your needs well, mine did. The neck on my G-Series was a bit narrower than my Epi Les Paul, and I did not think it would bother me at the time, but after a while it did. That was the only drawback I had with my G-series. Other than that, it was a great guitar for the price.

One thing about Takamine's is that they have dealers that sell factory seconds at more than 50% off their Firsts. Check Ebay, but only buy from someone with a lot of good feedback and have them check it out for you before you buy.

My Nashville new sells for $1900, and I got it for $850. A few things needed to be fixed, but that only cost me $100. Good luck in what you decide.

The Washburn seems a good bang for the buck incl. the hardshell-case, but I would go with the more expensive Takamine there.

I play Takamine myself and it never let me down. I gigs frequently with it, too.
