The Red Hot Chili Peppers win again with their latest album By The Way. Califorinication was a tough act to follow, but they sure pulled it off. By The Way was released world wide on July 9th 2002. This album seemed to have more of a pop/smooth rock feel to it, unlike most of their previous albums.Their line up was/still is Anthony Kiedis at vocals, Michael Balzary aka Flea on bass, Chad Smith on drums/percussion and of course John Frusciante on guitar.
The Red Hot Chili Peppers took a turn for the best with their release By The Way. Which presents a more funky/smooth rock kind of feel. Take for example, the Zephyr Song. This song has nice easy flowing smooth lyrics, with a guitar riff to match. Anthony's soothing voice, really gets the listeners thinking about the message that they are trying to get across. This is also present in the song Cant Stop. Cant stop the spirits when they need you, this life is more than just a read through, a great lesson that should be heard by all. Along side the lyrics, Flea lays down some great bass lines in songs like This Is the Place, Don't Forget Me, Throw Away Your Television to match the stunning guitar riffs from John Frusciante. Because of these more melodic songs, the Chili Peppers have lost a great deal of their fanbase. The lost fans think the new album is ?just not the same, and that there needs to be a change.? I personally prefer this album over much of their other work, I like this change and cant wait to see more of it. But, the one thing that seems to be drawing in the new fans are the lyrics, written from the heart. Using words like I could die for you, whatcha wanna do, oh this life I choose really show his love or confusion for life.(depending on how you look at it. Another very moving song from this album is Throw Away Your Television, discussing how the media is taking control of the world and is sucking everyone in. Take the noose off your ambition slay the plague for its contagious. All words directed toward them and their actions, so, The Chili Peppers revolted.
This album is definitely worth the cash hands down. Sixteen unbelievable tracks lasting 66 minutes and 48 seconds. The band is working together great and as Flea puts it they are tighter than a mosquito's asshole.
