I will soon be trading in my amp (Mesa Lonestar) for a Peavey Valve King. I'm going more acoustic so I want to augment my acoustic collection. I will be able to get one other guitar for the remainder.

Here are my choices:

Paul Beard Squareneck by Goldtone

or

Martin D15 Mahogany

I'm a little hesitant to put $630 into a resonator at this point. I'm not sure how much I'm going to like it yet, so I'd prefer to put $300-400 into it. That is the cheapest squareneck the shop has, so it's that or the Martin.

I've been gassing over the Martin for quite sometime. It has a good sound for fingerpicking folky rythms and for bluegrass flatpicking/strumming.

At some point I will definately be buying a square neck and the Martin. I could find a less expensive squareneck on Elderly, Musiciansfriend, or at another shop. So I'm leaning towards the Martin, even though I may have to put an extra $100 or so into.

What would you do in this circumstance? I'll end up making my own decision, but would like some input.

Me? Probbbbably the Martin. But that's just me (and I'm not into square-necks that much).

I just bought a martin d-15 and im in love with it. I got mine for 699$ US, and for the money i think its a very quality instrument.
So i guess add another to the martin list.

Get the Marty. You won't be dissapointed.

Don't fool yourself, she was heartache from the moment that you met her.
