The Lillywhite Sessions, which was recorded and produced with DMB specialist Steve Lillywhite was put into production in late 2000, prior to the release of Dave Matthews Band's 2001 release entitled Busted Stuff. However many of these tracks are familiar to any DMB listener, as most of the track list made it onto the official release which was Busted Stuff. However TLWS was never released officially but floats around on many P2P and torrent websites and is a must have for any DMB fanatic. Sweet Up and Down, JTR and Monkey Man are originally live songs that never appeared and have yet to appear on any official recordings, but since TLWS never made it out the door with those 3 songs on it as the Busted Stuff album, they were never heard from a studio standpoint. However in recent years the band has ditched all 3 of those songs from their touring setlist, but that is to say they dont revisit them once and a while for those big shows such as The Gorge or Red Rocks weekend shows.
There is no official album cover for the album but there are many fan made covers circling around the internet. There are many unique features about this album that make it so great and definatly a collectors album for any fan. None of the tracks are the same recordings as what is on Busted Stuff, so you are not hearing anything old. Many of the songs are rearranged, especially Kit Kat Jam which, in the album release version is just a jam session recording, however on TLWS Dave chose to add in a vocal line as well, yet the tune maintains its original jamming feel. Many of the songs are not your traditional DMB tunes, and by that I mean they are not true to the bands jam nature, they are more melodic and mellow instead of being in-your-face rock like they are known for. If you want to hear a great unreleased album you should try and find this one, its rare these days to come across it though, I had trouble getting ahold of it.

i remember just getting into dave, and getting ahold of this album, i won't say how.....
but, i never thought anything of it, until i realized later on how big this was. this was the band's unreleased material, stuff that've never been heard of, so needless to say, after hundreds of listens, the cd is trashed, but i've still got it, it's something very cool that i'll always cherrish.
