So for christmas my aunt gave my cousin that Yamaha Accoustic guitar package. When i was over there about a month ago i tried tuning her guitar and broke the high E string (i had one of those quick tune ™ things and it was so late i couldnt do it any other way). So my ovation is strung like my bass, but hers isnt. it doesnt have the type of bridge ovations do. so does anyone know a website with pictures onn how to change her strings?

thanks,
Kevin

Does hers have the removeable bridge-pins in it?

Oh yeah, that quick-tuner that comes in the package is terrible. I measured it, it tunes sharp, and that too imprecisely. I'm better off tuning it to my keyboard.

im not sure. i guess so.

Removable bridge pins usually are about the size of a pencil eraser and they are located just below the bridge. Similar to this...

Sometimes these are hard to get out... What I do is remove all the strings from the head of the guitar so they hang freely. Then, I take a coin, reach through the hole, and push on the bottom of them. Once you get them out, there should be a groove on one side of the pin. Take the string and put it through this groove with about two inches of free space hanging out of the bottom. Your string should have a little metal ring at the end of it to prevent the string from coming out. Next, insert the pin about this far down and pull the string until it is tight.

Push the pin all the way in and attach the string to the tuning pegs at the head. While tightening and tuning the string, BE SURE TO HOLD THE PIN FIRMLY IN THE GUITAR THE WHOLE TIME! Otherwise, the string will fly out and possibly cause injury. Trust me.

Hope that helped.

Good post. I'd just like to add if he has one of those cheap $1 plastic string-winders, there's a built-in peg-puller on the edge. And welcome to GTU, Bottom-String.

I don't like to remove all the strings at once. It really disturbs the setup due to the tension.

I change them in this order to keep the tension even.

Low E
G
A
B
D
High E
