A little out of season, but how about "Silent Night"? First performed in public with guitar accompanyment because rats had chewed holes in the organ bellows.

Tears In Heaven by Eric Clapton.

Depends on the stuff you like for suggestions. I do a tune "Hard Times Come Again No More" I arranged for old-time Appalachian fingerstyle guitar (originally a Stephen Foster tune!). I've performed it as a duet with my daughter several times in public with excellent audience response. We both alternate verses individually and harmonize together vocally on some. The progression and chording is relatively easy, the vocals carry most of the tune, although I do a pretty cool guitar-break in it (including a brief section with country-mandolin style picking). But then if you don't like Old-Time that would be a complete dud! Classic rock...? The old Jefferson Airplane tune "Today" is not difficult, yet very pretty and can easily be done on an acoustic guitar. It was done as a duet between Grace Slick and Paul Kantner. I can (and others I'm sure can) suggest lots of good tunes but if you named a direction or genre it would help in suggesting ones you might like better.

And welcome to GTU.

That's an excellent tune. And her duet with Union Station guitarist Ron Block doing the tune "Nothing At All" is another great one.

(If you're into that kind of music. At this point we're all just "throwing spit-balls at the wall and see if any of them stick!" laugh.gif )

The guitar parts are pretty easy too. The song really showcases your voice(s) and harmonization so if you have bad voices and cannot harmonize, I'd pick something else.

hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions. since we're both girls its hard finding songs that are appropriate! and for the record, my sister was a vocal performance major, and this is my senior vocal recital-- so we both are strong in the singing area. my brother is the guitar player, and he is very good, too. i really don't know what kind of song i'm looking for- i know that doesn't help much, but i don't. i love jack johnson, john mayor, caedmon's call.... but again, since the 2 of us are girl singers, that's more difficult.... and also, this is a recital, so i am having a hard time finding a genre of music that will fit my encore set, but still be nice enough for the recital.....
sorry, that was no help at all.
but thanks for all your suggestions! i will try and find those and listen to them.

Sisters? Well, that kind of takes away the "love-song" option! That tune "Hard Times..." would still work. Should you want to hear it, let me know and I'll d/l it for you to hear at SoundClick or somewhere. Anyway, good luck.

Damn I wish you were here in Philly and singing for me.

Why not try something from the Judds. (Naomi and Wynonna Judd). I hope you don't have issues w/ country. Maybe some INDIGO GIRLS stuff. The Corrs also may work as well as Dixie Chicks material.

"Down to the River and Pray by Alison Krauss" comes to mind. It can be done a cappella.

Sorry, I am an Alison Krauss nut.
