I'm a big fan of Yamaha guitars in that range. Also check out Breedlove, but I think that might be a little out of the range.

This question may better be answered in Acoustic Q&A. It will be moved there.

Go with a Washburn, they have the best selling acoustic in your price range. I;ve had experience with Washburn acoustics, and for the price, it isn't a bad deal.

You can't go too far wrong with a YAMAHA APX series dude.

But they may cost more than 300 dollars since I'm not sure exactly how much that is. But I think you'd be there or thereabouts.

Simon and Patrick slam out a nice acoustic at that budget.

A Washburn D-10 was my first acoustic steel string guitar. It's a great starter guitar. Because it does have a solid wood top, you do have to take care w/ humidity issues or suffer the hump at the 14th fret and high action which pretty much ruins the guitar and a neck reset will cost more than the guitar is worth.

For $300-$350 you can get a real nice Ovation Celebrity:

You can plug these in and they sound pretty decent. Ovations are nice because the neck feels like you are playing an electric, but you get the benefit of acoustic tone.
