The top-of-the-line acoustic for Harmony back then, which was one of the more moderately priced guitar makers. The Old bluesman Mance Lipscomb frequently recorded with a Harmony Sovereign. Of course it's no Gibson, but they were pretty decent guitars. A buddy of mine (a Mance-head) who can afford whatever he wants prefers his Soverign.

If I recall rightly, a Martin, Gibson or Guild in 1971 would run you about 10x that - maybe more. (Maybe a lot more). It was about this time that companies like Yamaha & Ibanez were taking top of the line American guitars back to Japan, steaming them apart, and coming up with their own low priced alternatives. Companies like Harmony couldn't match the price or quality of these Japanese imports.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i've heard many a time that stairway to heaven was recorded on a '71 harmony, so they must be pretty nice. plus just about everything was better quality back in the day.

i agree instruments back in the day were just generally better quality because people had only started to recognize stupid marketing ploys to sell more crap instruments for less money and in thelong run make twice as mucha s there competitior
anyway i think it is a really nice guitar and it plays very well i love it
