If you want to go new, Yamaha has some new models out that are around $300. That's US dollars. I don't know what that would convert to is Australian dollars. Alvarez also has a few in that price range. Fender has a lot of acoustics in that price range, but some of those guitars aren't all that great.

And that season be the first

"Guitars is like pússy, some of them is better than others but ain't none of them bad."
Unless you gig, there's no real reason to buy some expensive guitar. Even if you do gig, there are a lot of good guitars out there for $200-$500. I've had one really nice guitar, but I've never let that spoil me. I know people who once they get a nice guitar, anything under $600 is unacceptable. I can outplay people who have Gibsons, high end Fenders, Marshalls, all that bull###### with my $250 Peavey. Skill is skill. A name on a headstock or a price tag won't add to it.

To a point I agree, but once you hear that tone of an all wood Taylor or Gibson, it is very hard to go back to a laminate. They all sound "dead" to me now even w/ new strings.
There's a difference between NEED and WANT. The trick is to balance the two.
As far as no "real" reason to need a high end guitar.....wanting one is reason enough for me.
