I have been trying to teach myself guitar for about a year but am not making the kind of progress I had hoped. Also, I told my son (who is 12) that learning guitar can't hurt with the girls. He is a beginner beginner and I know a fews songs, few dozen chords, a bit of theory, etc.
Does anyone know a good guitar teacher in the western part of the San Fernando Valley, Woodland Hills/Calabasas area?? Everyone that I have contacted is full and not taking new students. Thanks for any advice.

I know a musician in that area named Rich DelGrosso. I haven't talked to him in a number of years (and don't even have his phone number anymore) but he does music workshops and has even done a few instructional books/CDs for Mel Bay, etc. He gigs quite a bit (a recent one was in Calabasas) and does a lot of out-of-town workshops, but he used to also give private lessons and still very likely does so. He's probably more well-known (in fact very well-known in the old-time/country-blues circuit) as a mandolinist, but his first instrument was guitar and he's an extremely good acoustic guitarist in addition to being a tremendous mandolinist. You might find his number in the local phone-book, or a simple google-search might give you a means of contact. You might even find him doing a local gig and contact him there.

I hope it helps. If you find him and it works out, you'll see he's far beyond a typical music-store kind of teacher. He's learned directly from many of the best old-school musicians, and has been a gigging pro for a number of years (which keeps ones skill-level "up there"). In addition, he has a lot of teaching experience. I hope it works out.
