Alright, after seeing all these threads about music software (a lot of them the same), I think it's time I let you guys know of the good open source music related software available on the Internet, of which I have a lot. With this technologically advanced world of ours, I think we should take advantage of this great Internet to help us each personally progress with our music.

First up: Audacity. It's a recording program that many of us use, and that many previous threads have been asking about. It's really great imo, and should be fine for you if you're not trying to do super high quality stuff. Even then. it might still be pretty good. Download it here.

Powertab. This is a tab editor, which is also fairly good. With this, you can now download powertabs all over the Internet. The reason this has become so popular is because you can actually play the song, hear it, and the corresponding notes will be highlighted.

Over the years, I've found this site to be very helpful. There's quite a list there, so I'm going to try and name the best/most useful/most common ones here. NOTE: quite a few of these are VST plugins, so you will be needing a host for them. Here is a fairly good open source VST host. There are a few other on the page.

10 band EQ

Tuner

Music speed manipulator. Great for practice.

Mini Keyboard

This is a nice software suite that has a few nice gizmos in it.

Effects!

Standard notation editor

Metronome

Scales

Synth. There are a lot of synths here, I'll just post one.

Amp emulator

Drum loops

Also, here is a library of backing tracks, can be used for practice, recording, etc.

Alright, I hope you all found this useful. If you would like me to add something, or if something doesn't work, or if you have any qestions at all, just throw me a PM or email: kkatarn327@hotmail.com

Happy playing! guitar.gif

No luck with power tab, but it's been close to two years now. I'm going to try again. I still use Win 98, Cakewalk Guitar Studio 2. My Switch Innovo MIDI guitars into Roland Gr 30 track best, then to pc. Turn all volume down, just play. Finish cleaning up the resultant mess, but have some good midi semi-tab files on many songs. Lots to be desired. No newby to programming, few, if any, can come close to the work i've done with *.hex

Anyone have any experience with the Kristal package?
http://www.kreatives...istal/index.php

This looks like a decent multitrack app that is free for personal use. It looks like they are in the process of partnering with PreSonus, so I have no idea where it's going from here...
