I just lost a bridge pin on my taylor 514-ce, and I went to guitar center to buy some new ones, but all they had in stock were cheap plastic ones. I was wondering if it made any significance in the sound or tone if I use the plastic ones. Basically, I ask, because I bought the plastic ones so i can play my guitar until the normal ones come in, but if it doesn't make any difference (other than cosmetically) what's the point right?
what do y'all think?

I am wondering how it got lost in the first place, but if you are like me you wont be satisfied until you have the real deal.

I use hard plastic pins on my Guild and they sound just fine to me.

Different materials will have a slight effect on the sound, but most likely not a whole lot. If you get something like brass that has a lot of mass, that means more sustain. Nominal probably, but there will be some more. But really, it's not that big a deal. The biggest difference you'll see is wear.

i would think on an acoustic guitar, the saddle itself would make more difference in tone than the bridge pins. bone saddles are highly revered, as are ivory ones(walrus tusk), but are expensive. i replaced the saddle on my J45 with a "bone-like plastic" space age polymer or whatever it is, the guitar sounds better but not dramatically different. they also make bone and ivory bridge pins which are supposed to make the sound better, but they are incredibly expensive for a few little pins.
"Oops, did I say that outloud?"
