i know this prob doesn't belong in this part of the forum, but let's face it, the other parts are pretty much dead. anyways, i have to set up a PA system at a local bar for a couple bands to play, and i really have no idea how PA's work. can anybody give me a basic rundown? thanks

PAs just amplify whatever is put into them. FOr the most part there are no effects or coloring of your input signal. You get what you put in, just louder.

Plugging in directly tot he PA system is ok for acoustic guitars and sounds quite nice sionce most acoustic amps are mini-PAs so to speak. If you want electric then you'll have to mic the electric amp and run the mic into the PA or run and OUT from the amp to the PA. It's also good if you can run stage monitors from the PA to the monitors so people can hear themselves and others on stage.

pa is made up of the mixer and the speakers, speakers plug into the main outs, all ur microphones go into the inputs, bass can be plagged into the mixer if needed, acoustics can also be plugged in, depending what mixer u have it should come with an EQ but it isnt needed unless something is really wrong, the gain pot at the top of each channel is a way of bringing the sound up put the faders at unity (there should be a line that says 0db) turn the main fader up Usually a red or yellow fader, and listen to your sound come out the speakers
