I have always had a soft spot for a certain kind of music. For many years I heard it and never knew what it was called. Dadfad was always talking about delta blues and I thought he ment Muddy Waters' music, I was wrong.

Delta blues is what would be played as a cowboy walked into a bar looking for a fight, right?

Do I have the wrong genre? If not, can anyone give me some insight on how the music is played? It seems to be tuned down and played with a slide quite a bit.

Well, this thread is a bit useless now, as I have found that DADFAD tuning is the guru of blues. The world is open to me now smile.gif.

laugh.gif Yeah, Ry Cooder has done some good soundtracks. Yes it's probably Delta Blues you're talking about ( the guitar slides on the third tension-fret as the gun-slinger moseys on into the saloon and everyone becomes quiet... then onto the seventh... and then to the twelfth fret as he walks up to the bar and asks for a sasparilla...!) Ry's done soundtracks like "Long Riders" and others of that genre. And he's good at using a solo electric guitar while keeping the intrinsic-quality and feel of a solo acoustic as he does it.
Un-plugged is not the same as
never-was-plugged-in-to-begin-with.

Actually there seems to be huge demand for slide guitar in movie soundtracks... I don't know, maybe it sounds picturesque or brings about that Southern climate. Ry Cooder has done well, so did Roy Rogers. Even some strummers like the Edge from U2 tried some simple (I-could-slide-better-with-my-d... type smile.gif) chord slides for films...

ApoXonFire, you should definitely get some Robert Johnson records if you like this type of thing. This should clear your mind.
